#20 Robert Lang 2008-2009

Everyone goes through times where they have trouble scoring. Vets are not immune to this. Even guys like Koivu who works hard goes into long slumps at times last year with Higgens and Segei on his wings. If you don't have all three guys playing well then it's tuff for just one to do it all. It's true that Lang hasn't been great on the facoffs and needs to improve, but IMO the rest of his game has been fine. No need to trash a guy 11 games into the season who has been a plus for the team so far.

Lang hasnt impressed me since maybe the first 3 games? Hes missed too many ops, if you ask me, the second sundin sais he will come to montreal Lang is on his way to Hamilton, Sundin would make Sergei better again, Sundin SK and Lats would be a great line, 3 truly "first" lines.

Sundin is past his prime and unlikely to contribute anymore than Lang is on the 3rd line. Sundin also would be horrible addition to Montreal being more of a distraction than it's worth.

If he couldn't get the Leafs to succeed how in the hell do we think he'd improve a talent laden Habs squad. Lang is fine, he's filling his role ... his point total expectations should be 40-60 on the 3rd line over the course of 82 games. His faceoff % is low right now, mainly because he's being used in all our situations against the other teams top line. He'll improve on that as well.

I will respectfully disagree. Sundin is an elite player and a gamebreaker. He still has a few good years left. It's not his fault that JFJ made all the wrong moves in Toronto and the team couldn't compete. Sundin still put up great numbers on a mediocre team. Lang, as much as I like him as an addition to our team is not even in the same league as Sundin.

No doubt about it. Great 3rd line pick up and when he starts gellin, he'll have nicer hair than Kovalev :D

Haha, for some reason that actually made me laugh-out-loud.

I'll choose to disagree as well -- you put Sundin on virtually any line right now and there's going to be a marked difference.

Sundin would have been here if he wanted to. He chose not to play hockey. Gainey went out and got Lang who is a pretty good offensive player in his own right. Hes not in the elite of players in the NHL like Sundin, but hes still a good offensive player. You also make it sound like it would be easy to dump Lang for Sundin being that Sundin would all of a sudden deciede he wants to play for the Habs now. I don't think it would be that easy to accomplish. You would think with the team doing so well a new player might get some time to adjust to the team.

Worse than that, considering the circus that has become Sundin's pending decision I truly believe he would be more of a distraction than a bonus regardless of his production (which ... lets be fair, last season with top minutes for Toronto got him ... 32g 46a 78p ... that would drop significantly if he's given 3rd line duties which given our current depth chart at center is exactly where Sundin would belong.

The sole reason Gainey went out and got Robert Lang was because he was tired of waiting for Mats to decide and wanted to move on...So what makes people believe that Gainey would waiver now and dump Lang in Favour of Sundin? If Gainey did that, it would damage any of the credibility he'd been working toward in attracting big name players.

Lang is a solid acquisition for Montreal and on a team this deep, he's a good fit. Lang is going to put up respectable, not spectacular numbers...But most importantly, Lang is going to provide the wisdom of 15 years of experience.

This is part of what I meant about Sundin being more of a distraction. We go out and get a guy like Lang who lets be fair is a respectable and good player especially given the role we've assigned him (3rd line center). Gainey would then turn to him and say "soooo, Sundin decided he wants to play after all ... sorry Robert but we're gonna have to trade you"

That's NOT how you build team spirit. I'm sure there's a few who've already gotten close to Robert that might be annoyed if the Habs dumped him for Mr I can't make up my mind Sundin

I'm happy with Lang. He's on pace with his normal par, and he's still getting used to different players. Until Guy has his lines all set, look for much the same from Lang.

As for Grabovski, 4 good games in a season doesn't make me want him back. I'm all for team first, and that crap he pulled last winter pretty much summed me up on him.

He fits in well with the Leafs, just another loser on a loser filled team.

Nice game. One assist and +2 for the game. Seems that Carbo was juggling the lines tonight. And it worked for the team. Lang appeared to play with Latendresse, S.Kostitsyn, Higgins, and Koivu during various parts of the game.

Yeah, it looked like he was getting some good time out there on the powerplay unit.
