#20 Robert Lang 2008-2009

He's taking a lot of flack, considering it's still pre-season, and we've actually seem him play very little. I'm not dissapointed in his play, I thought he played just fine last night. There's also an awful lot of complaining going around, considering he did score the winning goal in the shootout.

Give him time, he's new to the team and has played very little with them yet, everyone takes some adjusting to a new team. Look at Hossa last night (and no, I'm not comparing the two), but considering what I'm USED to seeing Hossa play like, he was far off last night. These things take time, doesn't matter if you're a superstar like Hossa or Robert Lang.

I have faith that Lang will be a big upgrade to Smokes. He had two asissts in his first game and scored the shootout winner in his second. While he may not have played to well last game he was coming off a groin injury and vets almost always take longer to get into full gear then the younger players. As mentioned he is also new to the team and needs to find a place somewhere. Just watching his shootout goal you can see he has more skill then Smokes. He has good stickhandling and can make a nice shot or pass. He is not a high energy player like Pleks/Andrei though.

All those not liking him now will love him by the end of the playoffs.

You will have to trust me. ;)

I think I'd agree with you. He's a skilled expierenced player who knows what he's doing out there.

I don't think it's fair to assess him when it's just the pre-season and he's actually played very little.

He's a vet,he's not going to give his 100% in a pre-season game that's for sure.Wait atleast 10 season games before giving any opinion about this man.

All those not liking him now might just have different expectations of what he should be! I hope no one really expects Kovalev and him to score 90 points each while rekindling chemistry from 8-9 seasons ago? I just want him to be reliable 3rd line center, and that's what he's shown me so far! Which is awesome! :)

I'm sure he will do a good job as a third line center. I was hoping he might be able to rekindle his chemistry with Kovy, but it might be best at this point to put them both with younger players who can energize them. Playing with guys like Pacioretty, Lats, and Sergei K might be just what he needs. I think if he played with Pacioretty and Sergei K in perticular it would be a good line since both of those guys are fast and will back up the defense for Lang.

I'm sure they are going to get an opportunity together several times throughout the year. Lang will definitely make his way onto the PP, since we have so very few right-handed shooters on the team. They may put up points together in that context. I'm sure Carbonneau is going to flip-flop his lines if the team plays poorly for two periods of any game, as well. Lang and Kovalev could see some shifts together then. An all-veteran line, maybe? Koivu centering Lang and Kovy. :)

I guess anything is possible. We will just have to wait and see what happens. I'm sure Lang will be out there in some important situations because he is the only right handed offensive player on the team. It seems that the AK/Pleks/AK line is doing to well to break them up at this point though. I'm pretty sure that Lang will get on the PP if Tanguay is playing the point during powerplays. I'm thinking that Lang will benefit from playing with fast young players though. It would make up for his not being so fast and also might help him to play with more youthful enthusiasm. He isn't exactly a spring chicken anymore. I can see he still has good hands though.

Outstanding first game by Bobby Lang. I was surprized some people actually thought he was no better then Smokes. Hes not always going to be as good as he was tonight, but he is a lot better offensive player then Smokes.

Lang and Price were our best players tonight. Lang looked really good.

Good game, he's not a very good skater at all, but he's smart and knows where to be. I wouldn't be surprised to see 25 goals and 60 points from him, especially since he'll get PP time as the right handed shot.

Even goal aside, this sums up exactly how I feel on Lang. He might not be the quickest, but his smarts were very impressive. The ONLY time I was disappointed with him tonight was missing the Kovalev rebound chance when he was in front of the net. In his defense though, he was battling a Sabres d-man pretty good.
