Habs won't sign any top line forward. :(

If the habs don't sign Tanguay (5.0), koivu (4), kovalev(4.5) and komisarek (5). Atleast we will have lots of cap.

Cap is good for nothing if no one wnat to play in Montreal

What good is cap space if we either don't sign our current players or can't attract anyone to come here through free agency :(

BINGO !

State of the Habs is pretty bad when you don't even offer your longest serving captain a contract.

Agreed, but you need to be awake to realize that you have neglected to do what most normal people with moderate brain activity in their heads would remember to do! Like I said in another thread, which of SnowWhite's little friends does Bob remind you of?You have seven guesses and six don't count!

Right now I'd have to guess

The state of the Habs is pretty scary right now, the way it looks to me, we're going to have the Bulldog's playing for us next season here in Montreal. With a few MTR players who Gainey was able to re-sign and 1 maybe 2 seasoned vets, 2 if Lang is up to playing another season.

One thing that keeps going around, is that players don't want to play here due to the high taxes and the passionate fans/media.

Let's start with taxes (and I'm sure Moneypuck will back me up on this), sure we're high and we don't give pro athletes any incentive, but it's not as much as everyone makes it out to be. In the states, Dallas is considered to be one of the highest, yet they have no trouble landing players and having a competitive team (lets forget last season, that was another issue completely unrelated). We're really not that bad once you start crunching numbers, cost of living, real estate, etc...

Now about the fans, sure we're passionate and we want our team to win, doesn't every sports fan feel the same way?

Imo, we're no different than any other city that has had the pleasure of a sports dynasty. Washington isn't even close to a sports dynasty, but still booed their team when they couldn't beat the Pens in the final game. They say we're hard on our goalies, too much pressure here in Montreal. But did anyone hear about the fans/media flaming Luongo after they fell to the Hawks?

They were as bad as they claim us to be, publicly coming out in the media and blaming Luongo for the loss, asking for a trade.

There's gotta be more to it, sure taxes and media play a role, but there's something else that makes players reluctant to come here. I'm starting to wonder if it's our management. Hopefully with the Molson's back in the drivers seat, we'll see a change here in Montreal.

Burke is a hard nosed GM, hard guy to play for, but he gets things done. As much as I respect Gainey, I think it's time for a Burke type GM to come in here and get things done.

I know zilch about the taxes except that it is used for an excuse. I don't the validity of that excuse.

I think 1.) media pressure stemming from what happens on the ice is one thing but 2.) media interference and rumor mongering about what goes on off of the ice is entirely different. I alluded to this in recent post in the Hamrlik thread and I think it's a valid concern. I think there will be players who can't take media 1.) or 2.) and I think there will be players who can handle 1.) but now know the risk of 2.) now more than ever.

Right at the moment I'm concerned about the State of the Habs too given the lack of activity. I guess the next couple of days will tell more though.

That's my point, in other Canadian cities you have the same thing following the players. Just last year Calgary news papers had issues concerning Iginla's house and problems with the contractor as a big story.

Basically what I'm trying to say is, it happens in other Canadian cities. Why does everyone always try to make it out like it's only in Montreal.

I agree with you, some players can handle the pressure and some can't. Vancouver, Calgary, Edmonton don't have the issues we have when it comes to Free Agents, why does Montreal. Ottawa is different, it's our capital, they're going to keep certain things under wraps and keep the circus show to a minimum.

He always has a plan, unfortunately it's like a child having a plan to get to the moon on their own.

Very true!
