FanofLafleur
I know one thing. If some of us are feeling Carey let us down in the playoffs last year, you can bet he feels even worse about it. Sometimes it takes a baptism of fire to make someone stronger. I think that will happen to Price. He will learn and gain strength from what happened last year. I have faith in him.
bailey1
So apparently a few of our Euros can't cross the border to play the Red Wings during our pre-season. http://www.rds.ca/canadien/chroniques/260186.html Both Kostitsyns and Yannick Weber's Visas weren't approved... Your link was the ""bad news if you have investments"" story. http://www.theglobeandmail.com/servlet/sto...ory/GlobeSports Thanks, for providing the right think, then. I was reading a few sections of the paper on-line. Habs' outlook seems better than financial markets, at the moment.

Dnjscott
State of the Habs: This season, they have something to prove. 1. MUST stop shifting into reverse when they have the lead. Just keep scoring goals. 2. No more meltdowns or collapses! If they must lose, at least go down fighting like champions. 3. The goal is to win the Cup. Only consistent teams do that. After winning the division and the conference, the Habs should have had a MUCH better showing in the playoffs, but their inconsistency proved to be their downfall. Gotta improve that aspect of their game. 4. If a Cup isn't won this season or very soon, the Habs will find themselves right back into the "re-building" mode that they have seemingly been caught in for fifteen seasons, because veterans like Koivu and Kovalev won't be around forever. 5. If Carbo can continue to improve as a coach and deliver what is needed, the team possesses the talent to go all the way. If he doesn't, then we have seen the peak already. I was saying all last season that the team played very inconsistent hockey, and boy, did it show during the postseason. We had only two decent games against Boston (games 1 and 7), and not one single good game vs. Philly. Carbo had better take a page or two from the Scotty Bowman playbook and get this team on track with a practice routine that instills a powerful, consistent work ethic, or this team will just get demolished once again. I've watched all the horrible meltdowns since 1993, but after finishing first in the regular season, last year's meltdown was for me the worst of all. The team could have, and should have, played so much better, and gone at least one more round. Well, Carbo is over his break-in. No more excuses. At least we know it's not the tie's fault. leafs_rock_go_mccabe
1 pre-season loss. 1 pre-season win. Tanguay looking good. Plekanec and Kostitsyn Sr. picking up from where they left off. Need to see some veterans in action. Looking alright so far.

leafs_rock_go_mccabe
4 W & 2 L in preseason action, thus far. Not bad considering we haven't iced anything close to our NHL squad yet.
Innis_Mor
You did not happen to write the article did you Innis Mor? Good one! Nope. But I've been saying this since last spring. It's those 11 young guys, most all being considerably better that will vault this team to the next level. Many teams, including Detroit, have whole a lot of quality players, but many of them have plateaued -- and this isn't intended to underestimate the Wings; they are clearly the best team on paper, and odd's on favourite to repeat their Cup win. FirstStar
So far, I like what I've seen in pre-season play. Lang has been in on the scoring, so has Tanguay (hope he stays healthy... knock on wood), the Kostitsyn brothers look hungry, as does Pleks. My only concern still, is goaltending... I love the kid, but it concerns me when teams are shooting so much on his glove side and he comes up empty. I already gave my 2 cents in the goaltending thread, so I won't repeat myself. I guess my concern comes from being a goalie as well, I know how quickly things can change. As for pac-man, Webber and the rest of the young crew, I have to say they impressed me. I can't wait til they're ready to join the Habs full time. Those bulldogs are going to be a good team this season.

Bumblebee_mtl
The State of the Habs? Preseason is looking pretty good... Team (RK) GP W L OT GF GA PTS Montreal ( 1) 8 6 2 0 23 19 12 Currently #1 in the East for preseason. Only other team to equal 12pts is in the West...and it's Vancouver (who are 6-0 right now). It's interesting to say the least, because this was done with the Habkins on the roster mostly, up against Detroit twice, lost 2 games, and a goalie rediscovering himself in nets for a good chunk of the time. I dunno, I know preseason means nothing and is essentially an extension of training camp, but it does bring a smile to my face It also tells me the kids are alright. habs1119
I feel this year that the team is more focussed on the playoffs, they'll do their best to get the best seeding possible (probably1 thru 4). Bottom line this year is a deep playoff run, and I think that last years experience gave them a taste of what winning is like and they seem very hungry!!!! flames4eva
State of the Habs... almost there and with some very good luck... there. Contenders? YES!!! Why not? However... IMO, barring the acquisition of an upgrade for the 4th "D" position they are still a little short without alot going the right way for them... Still possible to be sure, but not a slam dunk that they will be in the final. This could change still... I hope it does... only time will tell

Still possible to be sure, but not a slam dunk that they will be in the final. This could change still... I hope it does... only time will tell I think many of us posters are on the same page. My guess is that BG will be keeping his eye closely on the development of Gorges (in particular) and O'Byrne. If one of them does not make that leap (and it is doubtful, in this one season), then he'll be pulling the trigger on a trade (trade deadline or before) to shore up mostly specifically for the last two rounds of the play-offs. I believe the Habs could get to that point with their current roster, but I don't believe that's the endpoint of BG's plan for this 100th anniversary season of the Club.
