palcesoman
Although he isn't officially allowed to wear the 'C'. Three Canucks will now wear the 'A',, Kesler, Mitchell and Ohlound. Welcome to the new NHL.
franck5890
Well there's not much in Vancouver deserving of the "C". I think the closest thing would be Bieksa or Ohlund, which isn't saying all that much.
HabsFanInCalgary
Not so sure I agree w/ this, but I suppose if thats the choice far be it from me to argue. I would have let Ohlund wear the C.

HabsFan042069_mtl
Luongo has enough pressure stopping 40 shots per game and dealing with the media when he lets one bad goal every so often.....This is another huge error for the Canucks IMO

Mauro-Biello
Is he only not allowed to wear the C because he can't skate the whole way to the refs whenever they need to talk about penalties and what not?
Innis_Mor
Although he isn't officially allowed to wear the 'C'. Three Canucks will now wear the 'A',, Kesler, Mitchell and Ohlound. Welcome to the new NHL. Gotta be something Mike Gillis hatched. He's nothing if not "different"! "Hey, Mats Sundin, I'll overpay you by 30% to that you can come play for us Canucks and be able to host your Swedish buddies in the 2010 Olympics, right here in town!" Luongo has enough pressure stopping 40 shots per game and dealing with the media when he lets one bad goal every so often.....This is another huge error for the Canucks IMODitto here. Bizarre decision. I suppose, as much as anything, it shows the lack of leadership candidates amongst the skaters on the team.
Wayne-1
Is he only not allowed to wear the C because he can't skate the whole way to the refs whenever they need to talk about penalties and what not?this rule has been on the books for a long time, so the relative slowness of having the goaltender skate, possibly the length of the rink, to talk to the ref is probably why it's the rule... offhand, the Canucks are treating their captaincy like the other 3 North American sports treat their captaincies... I think only hockey gives the Captain and Alternates special privileges during the game, the other sports treat it as an unofficial mark of respect and leadership but I don't think those captains are any differenet than any other player once the games start... p.s. and yes I agree with most that if you know your team is going to suck, you had better find things to 'distract' them
gracie12
What an odd move. Yes, Luongo is arguably the best Goalie in the league right now, but when past legends like Roy, Hasek, Brodeur et all were never asked to be captain, you can bet there's a reason. I believe it was the great Ken Dryden himself who wrote that goalies (for the most part) are a bit "off" Goalies can be great leaders (see roy) but moreso with their actions than words. Im sort of shaking my head at this one.
koreysecord1992
Not exactly the greatest move in my mind. But it seems Mitchell is the "true" captain as he's designated to converse with refs.

NariusJaden
I have to say im in disagreement about all this. i know that its not exactly the greatest choice for captain, but this team really needs something to work for them and be a positive influence. on a standpoint of distraction, yeah, you could say its distracting, but he isnt going to be making the big decisions. but the team probably has already come to him before. he is their BEST player and while some of the greatest goalies in history have never been captains, but IMHO, Canada needs some inspiration if we ever want the cup inside its border again XD yes, its not exactly the greatest team for that but im just hoping ^^ (although i gotta say, i hope our boys win it !) Scott92
Honestly, this makes a bit of sense, seeing as he is arguably their best player. I would have initially given it to Ohlund, but I guess they wanted to stir things up a bit and give it to their prized goalie. This could possibly just be a publicity stunt, or maybe they truthfully thought it was their best option. Either way, he was and now is one of their top candidates and I wish the best to him. First time in 61 seasons according to NHL.com that this has happened...having a goalie be captain that is. I wonder if it will last more than a season though, but who can really say... I wonder if it will last more than a season though, but who can really say... oh, this is definitely a publicity stunt -- because, they're naming him 'captain', even though he can't actually be captain during a game -- which is the only time being the official captain means anything... the Canucks could name every player as 'captain' as long as they only designate three players as captain and alternates during games.. and the NHL is playing along with the Canucks, or NHL.com's staff writers don't know the Rules: "By League rules, Luongo cannot wear the 'C,' but he can be named captain" implies being a goaltender means he can't wear the designation on his jersey but Luongo can still carry out the captain's duties during the game -- which he can't... Scott92
Wow! Max Pacioretty really impressed me tonight...including in the shootout. From what I saw tonight, it was a really high-tempo game on both sides of the puck. Good game and I wonder if Carbo is looking into Pacioretty more after that SO goal.
