russianhabsfan
I don't know if anybody noticed this article on RDS: http://www.rds.ca/hockey/chroniques/260853.html Any thoughts?
CanadianMike
I am so shocked. He was their best player last season and I was sure they would want to keep him for awhile. I wonder what they are looking for...a Dman? I think it would be a bad move for them...so I hope they do trade him.
russianhabsfan
Me too, I don't get this one. They're also asking him to clear his NTC. But I don't think they're going to be much worse without him, surely they're looking for something worthy to replace him? I don't think it's just a salary dump. Is this smelling like Sundin? babinator77
are they nuts or are they over the cap? wow. i would love to see savard wearing the ch but i can't imagine they'd be nuts enough to make us stronger i'm with you canadianmike, here's hoping they move him to the west. CanadianMike
There has to be more to this story though. There is no way they are close to being over the cap (they have one of the cheapest (SCROOGE) GM/staff) so that can't be it. you'd think they would at least start the season (couple months maybe) before even thinking about such a thing. Glory_Days
Kind of weird...Eventhough Bergeron's back in form, they've picked Ryder, young guys like Lucic and Krejci are developping fast, i really don't understand this. It's not like he was underachieving for someone with his salary. He's a top 10 center in this league.. Edit: The only reason i can think about, is that they really want a top d-man or goalie.. I used to work with a Bruins fan that would always say how cheap his team was.
russianhabsfan
Boston's books are at 55.47 Mil with 1.23 Mil left. So it's not a cap issue for sure. source: http://nhlnumbers.com/overview.php?team=BOS&season=0809
Wayne-1
read the original Boston Herald article: http://www.bostonherald.com/sports/hockey/...&position=1 it's nothing more than them dragging up old rumours as 'possibilities'... nothing to substantiate the story that Savard is being shopped or even on the market now... westernleafsfan
they were dumb enough to trade thornton... so what do you expect?
mortwinkler
Boy, if we had room on our roster I'd say bring him here. He'd be a great addition.
Bourne
Boy, if we had room on our roster I'd say bring him here. He'd be a great addition. If it is a defensemen they are looking for I'd be willing to part with practically anyone barring our top three to grab Savard. I would even be traded to toss Higgins in the mix although I would prefer someone else. Nevertheless the talked about deal currently has Savard heading to Vancouver for Bieksa, Edler and possibly Krajicek or a first. Of course please direct your eyes to my sig for the source. leafs_rock_go_mccabe
Is this legitimate? Savard has been a phenomenal assist producer in the past few seasons. Like, seriously, one of the best. He was leading the league in assists last year for a good portion of the season if I recall correctly, and he doesn't shy away from the gritty stuff. Has anyone figured out why, if at all, he would be on the market? Does Boston have that kind of depth at center? I really think trading Savard would mess them up big time. He sure would be awesome in a Habs uniform!
Innis_Mor
It was last season when then (and still?) "Board member" Harry Sinden let go with his diatribe on how he didn't like Savard, just an assist guy, not a real hockey guy, etc. He had done the same with Thornton, but maybe that one was after the trade with San Jose. It's possible Savard is intimating, or playing, like he'd rather be somewhere else. Obviously, a great playmaker, but that's not what the Habs need to top up on some more.
