CANADIENS27
Anibal Sanchez shuts down a listless New York Yankees on three hits over seven innings in a 3-0 win. Hikoki Kuroda had thrown a perfect game for the first five innings. Detroit scored the first run in the seventh inning on a grounout when second baseman Robinson Cano dropped what likely would have been the relay throw to complete a double play. Detroit would also benefit from n admitted missed called when Omar Infante rounded second base too far and was thrown out but was ruled safe. Two additional runs scored after that. Jose Valverde was benched in favor of Phil Coke who got the save.

CANADIENS27
Donald Trump in Tweet message calls Alex Rodriguez a $30 million a year ripoff and says he should give his contract to charity. That might make sense since he is 3 for 23 in this year's playoffs. I forgot who Trump blasted, but doesn't is remind you of George Steinbrenner? CANADIENS27
Justin Verlander shuts down New York on three hits, one of them a leadoff ninth inning home run by Eduardo Nunez, over 8 1/3 innings in a 3-1 win. Phil Coke relieved and gave up a pair of two out singles before striking out Raul Ibanez on a 3-2 breaking ball. Nunez's home run ended a 37 inning streak by Detroit starters of not allowing an earned run which is post season record in the live ball era. Delmon Young had a solo home run in the fourth inning and Miguel Cabrera's RBI double in the fifth provided what proved to be the winning run. CANADIENS27
Could Alex Rodriguez be heading for the Miami Marlins? That's the rumor. It doesn't make sense to bench him and keep him on the roster at $29.8 million a year. He's been struggling against hard throwing righthanders and is 3 for 23 in the postseason. CANADIENS27
Detroit finishes off the listless New York Yankees 8-1 to complete a four game sweep. The Tigers were led by Miguel Cabrera who straightened out a fastball that sliced over the inside third of the plate intio the left field seats in the fourth inning good for two run and Jhonny Peralta who applied the same treatment to a hanging curve ball later in the same inning, also for two runs. He would later add another solo shot in the eighth. Delmon Young and Austin Jackson also had home runs for Detroit. Max Scherzer took a no-hiiter into the sixth until giving up a triple and double. After a walk, Scherzer was lifted in favor of Drew Smyly who would face pinchhitter Alex Rodriguez. Instead of striking out with runners in scoring position, Rodriguez sent a routine fly ball to center field with runners at the corners. Any trade annoucement concerning A-Rod would only be a formality of his departure.
CANADIENS27
A-Rod would also ground out in the ninth to complete a 3 for 25 postseason for .125 batting average. New York would also be outhit 46-22 in the series.
CANADIENS27
Detroit also becomes the first team to eliminate New York three straight times. CANADIENS27
Detroit's bullpen remains a question according to MLB.com. Valverde has been shaky and hasn't been used since blowing a four lead in the ninth inning against Oakland. Benoit has been prone to giving up the home run. Drew Smyly, Al Albuqurque, and Phil Coke have done an excellent job, but MLB site considers the Giants bullpen to be deeper.

CANADIENS27
Justin Verlander had no command of his fastball in an 8-3 loss as Pablo Sandoval lit him up for two of his three home runs in the game, the first on an 0-2 pitch. Sandoval became the fourth player to hit three home runs in a postseason game and the first time in a Game 1 of any postseason series. San Francisco starter Barry Zito limited Detroit to one run on six hits over 5 2/3 innings. Reliever Tim Linecum shut down the Tigers without a hit over 2 1/3 innings. Jose Valverde may have finished off his chances of returning to the closer role by allowing two runs on four hits and getting only one out. CANADIENS27
To no one's surprise, Ozzie Guillen has been fired as Miami Marlins manager, which means owner Jeff Loria will be dining on the remaining three years and $75 million of Guillen's contract. Lingering backlash over Guillen's praise of Fidel Castro was the main culprit, but having a bad team didn't help.

Stupid replays don't even slow it down,,,,not like the puck crossing the line. WTH is up with that? Ask third base coach Gene Lamont. Especially when San Francisco was given the edge on defense. Fielder moves well for someone his size, but that play would have made sense if he were about 20 pounds lighter. Baseball Hall of Shame books have a title for plays like that: MBAs - Managers of Bludering Actions. Not that would have made any difference since Detroit has suudenly run into solid pitching.
