Fellow reliever Aaron Sanchez is in the same boat with a blister on his finger. Maybe they should go to the hospital and have them looked after. CANADIENS27
Kansas City 5 New York 4, 14 innings. Defensive lapses, stolen bases, the longball, and the bullpen prove vital in the longest Game 1 in World Series history. Alcides Escobar took advantage of defensive breakdown by centerfielder Yoenis Cespedes and left fielder Michael Conforto who overran his drive into leftcenter for an inside the park home run. It was the first such hit in the World Series since 1929 by George "Mule" Haas of the Philadelphia Athletics against the Cubs. The Royals tied the game at 3-3 in the sixth on a single by Lorenzo Cain, a steal of second which eliminated the possibility of a 1-6-3 doubleplay on bouncer back to the mound, and a single. A two out single in the top of the eighth, a stolen base, and bouncing ball booted by Hosmer gave the Mets a 4-3 lead. Alex Gordon bludgeoned a hanging sinkerball over the centerfield fence in the ninth to send the game to extra innings. A throwing error by the Mets' third baseman, a single, and an intentional walk set the stage for Hosmer. Kansas City's bullpen shut down the Mets over the final six innings, though the Mets had a first and second chance in the 11th. Kansas City leads the series 1-0. CANADIENS27
Kansas City 7 New York 1. Johnny Cueto shuts down the Mets on one run and two hits, but issued three walks. One of those came around to score. Mets face a team that posted the fewest strikeouts in the majors and their ability to make contact is proving to be the difference so far. Jacob De Grom was unable to put away hitters after getting two strikes and apparently was not making adjustments.
