i was thinking to myself: we're finally going to the pay the price for all the mistakes that have been noted in the state of the habs thread...and low and behold, the habs show up for 20min and get the w. they might not have learned that they can't salvage a game in the final period

Yeah, I'm also worried that the win lets them off the hook for the stinkfest that was the first two periods. I still hope Carbo rips into them after the game, no way should they be feeling good about themselves for playing 20 good minutes in a desperate come-back win against the worst team in the league.

but we saw pleks on fire, higgins in the crease and kovalev and koivu proving, once again, that they are the core of our team. may not have been our best game but it was certainly our most exciting and i can live with that. :D

Well, Higgins scores yet another goal from 5 feet out. Maybe this year he'll finally realize that he needs to be at the net to score, not dancing around the perimeter playing keep-away with the puck and not using his linemates at all.

say WHAT!? I go out to put gas in the car and it was 4-1 Isles in the 3rd, come back in and and we win 5-4!? How in the world do we keep getting wins playing only 20 minutes? "Hard work beats talent when talent doesn't work hard" well thats just not the case this year for the Habs! Imagine what its going to be like when they start firing on all cylanders?

you guys really over react.....

the team did play horrible, but they played an excellent third. however, that is not enough to win against a top opponent. with that said, i'm glad we got the win, and even if we did lose, it wouldn't be the end of the world.

True Keith, but the thing is most of the NHL teams is that bad. Look at our entire conference. So who is a top opponent right now when on paper we are the best?

Rangers? Hardly.

Sharks? They're good.....but we are good too.

Det? Nope.

and on and on.

You missed an amazing 3rd. Hang your head in shame :P

i didnt watch the game, im at work  but just from reading some things, it sounds like the same old team playing only one period. tonight was the night that should of seperated us, and your right weep, they shouldnt feel good about this win, there is no excuse on having to play catch up against a bottom dewller team like the isles. and i agree with what you said about higgins.

You should know after that 6-5 win last season against the Rangers to NEVER give up on these guys!

It's not overreaction, it's realistic thoughts really. What they did in third was what should have been happening from a team like that from the moment the game started. They played like they CAN play and SHOULD play. Instead they're slopping around doing things in manners that appear half arsed.

We have the team to win this year, but NOT by the first 40 minutes (of this game). And the Islanders aren't a top team. And I say that with respect for them. Compared to the Canadiens at the moment, they shouldn't have been allowed a 4-1 lead at all.

This can and will work however. Slow start to the fireworks *grins*

The 3rd period just proves the character of the team: never give up.

Because the bright side is at least they didn't lose. The bottom line is they came back to win it.

Hey the Leafs cameback on the Rags. Down 2-0. Win 5-2! Deja vu for Tom Renney? (It's no 5-0 comeback, but it must still hurt).

Having a 10-2 record and being beat by the Leafs twice is more than hurt, it's embarrassing.

no reason at all to be happy about this, where was this drubbing we were supposed to give them? i hope this game gave alot of people a reality check

and the reality is that in order for us to win we need to play horrible teams and thats chore or have carey stand on his head

shout out to higgins though he deserved that goal he busted it all night and has busted it everygame since he returned

Well, I was a lil scared when we got to the 3rd period and it was 4-1.

I've been hard on Lats, but during the 1st 2 periods he was amongst the few players playing for the habs. Playing the man, working the corners, he's gotta capitalize on goals. But with him checking and playing so strong, I'll forgive him for missing scoring chances. Another player playing strong, is Gorges. He seems to get better and better. He doesn't take chances and plays smart hockey. O'Byrne, hmmmm, making some bad errors. I think he'll be fine though, funny, he reminds me of Komi when he 1st came up.

Finally, the Plex line is scoring!!!! Vey happy for Plex, got a nice pass from AK46 and capitalized on it (guess he's finally over the memories of the hit). But kovalev, despite scoring 2 goals, is starting to worry me... It's been several games now I've been noticing him giving away bad passes and playing rather sloppy. How many time did he give the puck away?!?

Carey, a few shaky goals, but came back to keep us in the game. Well, keep us in the game, so to speak - Up until the 3 or 5 minute mark, he'd only had 1 shot. Bounced back and looked strong when we really needed him, thumbs up. He's been great and can't really be upset if he lets in the odd soft goal.

All in all, a strong come back, but in my opinion, we shouldn't have let them go up by 3 goals. I think the Habs came out over confident expecting an easy game. The Ilse on the other hand, came out expecting a tough game and caught us sleeping. Nice come back guys, but we shouldn't of had to play make up hockey. I'll still take the win.

Oh yeah, hats off to higgins! Playing great since returning and finally broke the ice.

Their breakout plays were terrible tonight and have been most games. They are finding was to win without playing their best hockey...This will only last so long.

Fun third period to watch. Kovalev and his line were pretty good. Higgins may have made a case to be placed on the Tanguay Koivu line tonight. Price let in a few questionable goals but made up for it in the end by making some key saves to keep the lead.

Overall, this victory may be a good confidence boost for some players but they certainly need to work on a few things as a team, i.e. breakouts, faceoffs.

One thing is for certain, it's interesting to be a Habs fan.

Here I was, frustrated and yelling at my television, along with many other fans and fearing the worst. Yet incapable of distinguishing that last glimmer of hope that, maybe, just maybe, the team would decide to get their thumbs out of their ... well, you can guess the rest.

We have to start out with simple aggressive hockey, get the line, forecheck hard and crash the net, just to ingrain that work ethic before we start with all of the no look chip behind the back saucer pass from thirty feet while dancing the jig.

I understand that these transition moves allow for a quick retaliation and are useful, but when it is the only plan you run with, teams pick up on it and intercept, immediately turning the rush back the other way while our forwards are heading full tilt in the wrong direction.

Of everyone on the ice, Gorges and Plekanec seemed to be the only players interested in winning after the first three minutes of the first. Kovalev was working all game, but he usually looks effortless doing so. When he is really working, it's a whole other gear. Until the third, then it was a whole different game.

We simply can't continue to play this way. A win is a win, but at least a loss would potentially wake the team up and snap them out of it. These wins we are getting are like a bad habit and we can't afford to get hooked, when we really want the wins later in the season, even in the playoffs, we will find them in short supply.

While everyone showed a good third period effort, Plekanec and Gorges were consistent, along with Kovalev, and Koivu was really flying. Higgins gets his first, courtesy of Koivu's efforts and being in the place where we usually have trouble getting him to go. Hopefully a lesson is learned. Wouldn't be surprised to see Higgins back on Koivu's line now, unfortunately for Latendresse. Lats didn't maintain the work ethic that was keeping him there, but in his defense, many on the team are guilty of the same.

Nice work by both Kovy and Pleks to rack up some goals. Marking the return of the potency of the top line perhaps?

Price had a weak game and he knows it, but credit to the Islanders for their play, they used screen and deflection attempts as part of their simple game and it nearly spoiled us. This is an offensive weapon we sorely lack. Message to Habs defenders, a partial deflection is worse than a clean shot. Let them shoot or be sure to make it so they can't.

8-1-1 and 17 points looks really good, but watching us get there has been a real struggle.

Well this was a bad game but we came back and won it. We can't do this very often so let's hope we start giving it 100% every game from now on. One really good thing that came out of this game is that KOVY's LINE IS BACK!!! So now with Kovy's line back on track all we need to do is give it 100% every game for 60 minutes and cup #25 will finally be here.

Go Habs Go

Go Kovy Go

So I'm thinking to myself, WOW, Higgins has the most hustle out of anyone on our team so far this year, him and big GUI! they are flying around the ice, too bad they have to fight for one spot in out deep lineup

Actually, our forward with the most hustle this year was a healthy scratch tonight. Kostopoulos has outworked everyone on this team thus far and Carbo thanks him by benching him. I'm truly disgusted at his decision tonight.

I thought Lats had a great game. Sure, he finished -2 on the stat sheet, but he was very strong in his board work in the offensive zone, he was hitting with a purpose, and generally was one of the few players through 40 minutes who had some jump in his step. It would be a shame to push him off that line because he didn't get the bounces for one night.

Preach it, brother! That's my same exact thought every time we get scored on from a partial deflection. Either man up and block the shot for real or get the hell out of the way and give the goalie an open look at the shooter. This is how we got eliminated from the playoffs in 05-06, you'd think we'd have learned the lesson by now. ;)
