Hey, great game tonight (the first 40min sucked, but can't be disappointed with the win after the final 20min).. but before the third period i couldn't help but say out loud to 2 of my friends "notice how the habs never win when the three of us watch the game together"... as an example that i brought up was when the habs lost to the leafs 2 years ago and missed the playoffs... i was quick to say though "last year nath and i saw montreal down 5-0 to the rangers, and i said we had lots of time to come back"... well looks like some of that magic appeared again tonight

Wow! you guys get a come-from -behind win like this and you're all pessimistic...the fact is this team is on the verge of greatness and tonight that showed because they didn't play well but...won anyway....so if they're playing poorly and have a 8-1-0-1 record hows that a bad thing??

It's the samething people said in 06-07. If it was a rare occasion, one out of every 9-10 games we'd play bad and find a way to pull out a win, I'd agree. Doing it every night has to be a huge concern, right now the results are good but all that seems to be doing is creating a false sense of security.

I guess we're seeing things differently here. The past two games, IMO, Latendresse has played really well, with lots of energy, hustle, and physicality. Against Minny, the first goal doesn't happen if he doesn't paste the Minny player into the boards, forcing a turnover that keeps the puck in the offensive zone and later leads to Bouillon scoring. I'm seeing him aggressively hit people at the right time, and I'm seeing him control the play more and more down low using his big frame to protect the puck. He isn't getting the bounces, but he is contributing on the point sheet, and his linemates are scoring quite frequently.

I just don't think it's right to pull a youngster off a scoring line because Higgins happened to score one goal in the third period. Higgins, to me, has been largely invisible the past few games. I'm happy he scored, because hopefully it's the beginning of a scoring streak for him, but one goal in one period isn't enough to warrant a permanent line change.

LATS CAN"T SKATE..what is everyone watching?...when he gets the puck along the boards and tries to carry it up the wall it looks like he's skating in soup..its so painfully obvious it embarassing...I honestly think he has no business on this NHL roster, we have much better players in Hamilton..

OK, I'll admit it before I put in my two cents. I've only been a hockey fan for like a year and a half now. We don't have hockey per se in the country I came from. But seeing how I live in Montreal now, it seemed like a soccer like thing to cheer for the local team, win or loose, you stick with them.

That being out of the way, as people such as GHC mentioned, the his kind of play will catch up on us eventually and we'll end up loosing more than winning. Most observers of the sport would agree that we have been lucky to get out wins in the past erm.. 3 games. I'm hesitant about three games, because in full honesty, tonights third period showed us what the team has for them, speed, power, skates and skills. So lets be fair and call it the two games leading up to this one.

But point the same, there is something amiss for this team, and I can't quite get my finger on what it is. Last year you could eality put your finger on the problem and get that Ah HA! Only to see that Carb figured it out as well.

All in all though, the Habs do have a history of starting slow and building up momentum as they go along into the season (please correct me if I'm wrong in my observations). My fear is that they keep the abd playing momentum's but somehow keep faith that they'll get over it eventually.

Two cents....... for what it's worth in our economy..

Nice post Nif. There has been concern by myself and some members here about the Habs' play this year. It seems like even though we should be better this year, on paper that is, we're not skating like last year's team. Yet, by some miracle, we've only lost 2 games (1 in overtime).

Take tonight's game, we have no business winning this game, yet a deflection here, a bounce there and the better team (Islanders at least tonight) didn't win. So instead of learning our lesson about how we have to skate for 60 minutes, our egos grow even bigger about how we can turn it on at any time and win. I'm flustered thus far, it's as if there is a higher power helping the Habs pull off lucky win after lucky win, hmmm, could be all those ghosts we keep talking about. Maybe Pleks didn't score those goals, maybe it was Elmer Lach.

I do agree with you Roy & certainly history is on your side - but - this team, this year is a little different. Our goaltending may be the best its been since your namesake was patrolling the crease. No doubt in my mind our defense is better than it has been since Denis Savard was a "what if he could play for the habs" dream and up front we may have the most complete set of forwards we've had since "Bobbbbieee Smittttt---e" sounded francais.

The point is that yes, we've squeaked out some bad ones, but with the tweaks over the summer, we may just have the most complete team we've had in Montreal since the days of glory. Once we start firing on all cylinders, watch out. Add a top pairing dman to play alongside Hammer & watch out. Get Koivu AND Kovalev's line clicking on the same night and...well, you get the picture.

AS LONG as this team can learn from their mistakes, I think we're going to be ok. ;)

I agree and I wasn't trying to compare the situations, I'm just saying let's not get overconfident because we need to start playing better.

And for the record, my login has nothing to do with Patrick Roy. I always wondered if people thought that. It's supposed to be like the guy's name Roy. The 133 was suggested by hotmail when I signed up for an email account (LOL I tried registering roy@hotmail.com).

Basically, I made this email in like junior high, so like 1999, and at the time in class we had to fill out a piece of paper to go get a drink or whatever, teacher said I was going too much so I started filling out the name Roy and an alias was born! Now you're all a little dumber for knowing.

I suppose Andrew_133 would make more sense, but really it seems like a lot to remember 2 different email/login deals.

Yes Jed, this team is different, probably the most talented team we've had in over a decade. The main concern is the work ethic, it was obvious once again tonight. I agree that if we start firing on all cylinders we'll just cruise to the top, no ifs or buts about that. The question is, what will get us to fire on all cylinders.

And look where it's gotten me! Let that be a lesson to all the kids. ;)

Really though, It just seemed easier to pick whatever they suggested. Also, I think was 12 at the time (it's an old email).

Wow... Everybody hates him now, or what??

No hate but I never liked him. He was a Hab so I made with it, he isn't a Hab anymore so ...

What did Carbo do...Rippp them a new one...in the second intermission

Apparently that's just what he did, Bouillon alluded to a 'good meeting' in his post game comments

can you hear the habs fans at the colliseum making this a home game for our guys? :)

We sure did our best and it cost me my voice. When the Habs scored the 4th, we received a beer shower. Some frustrated Islanders fan 10 rows above just threw his full beer at the glass :lol:

The fans who traveled to NYC for the weekend sure got a treat!

Yep :D

Keep in mind though, that besides maybe the Sabres and the Bruins, we haven't really been playing Stanley Cup contenders (again, with full respect to the respective teams) to date. And I can take the smack for calling the Bruins a Cup contender. :P

Maybe Pleks didn't score those goals, maybe it was Elmer Lach.

Plek's possessed ?

I like the thought of that, maybe he won't need professional psychological help after all, just a ghostly possession of a past greater glory *grins*

Actually, our forward with the most hustle this year was a healthy scratch tonight. Kostopoulos has outworked everyone on this team thus far and Carbo thanks him by benching him. I'm truly disgusted at his decision tonight.

Completely agree on that one, WHY?

Tom is one of the hardest working Canadiens we have.

I agree with you 100%. He's way too slow for this team which reflects his play on the penalties that he takes - always trying to play catch up then out of nowhere a zebra has his arm up.

Everyone hates a winner.

I can live with that. :D

Can still remember friends trying to tell me that the old Shutt-Lemair-Lafleur line wasn't really that good - too small, never hit, take away Lafleur and they're nothing, blah, blah, blah. Of course, that was coming from fans of Sittler and Salming. Oh well.
