Habsinsideout is reporting that Breezer, Kosto, and Dandy are out in favor of Begin, Laraque, and O'Byrne.

I absolutely hate this move. B, K, and D played solid games on Thursday night and their reward is the bench? Why? So Steve Begin can take penalties at the worst possible times while failing to generate the energy for which he's supposedly known? So O'Byrne can conduct another seminar in his long-running series How To Ice The Puck For Absolutely No Reason? So Georges Laraque can protect us from such pugilistic heavyweights as Bill Guerin, Bruno Gervais, and Richard Park?

I simply don't understand how you dismantle the fourth line after it played such a solid game against Minnesota.

The Islanders are coming into this game on a six-game losing streak and missing three of their starting defensemen. This is exactly the kind of team you want to victimize with a strong, speedy forecheck, the kind that Kosto-Lapierre-Dandy used to great effect against the Wild. Neither Begin nor Laraque is a speedy player. And in fact, that fourth line was an absolute disaster against Anaheim, getting caught deep in the offensive zone for at least one goal against and taking penalties against the Ducks's top players.

I know it doesn't sound like much -- it's only the fourth line after all -- but coaching is all about details.

It's simple to understand though. The team is healthy, you want to keep everyone happy and sharp. By sitting guys 3-4 games in a row, it's not doing any of them or the team any favours. Also, I'm sure that those guys know that it has nothing to do with performances.

Also to add: We don't play until next Friday... <_<

Aww...wth...no Tom...no.gif

Well, I guess it's because NYI are crap. So let's see what the other guys can do.

even warriors need a night off once in a while ;) Kosto sitting is simply a matter of having too many players and not enough spaces.

weeping: Why play O'Byrne over Brisebois? The islanders are not exactly a power house, so in theory this is a nice easy team for O'Byrne to match up against and fingers crossed gains some experience (basically being put in a position to succeed)

as for Laraque abd Begi? like Greek hab said we don't play again until next friday (who the comes up with these screwed up schedules anyway?) which would mean the players being added in would have been sititng for over 2 weeks. Thats way too long to be on the shelf.

I think Price will get the start. But with the big break until the next game and the fact that the Islanders suck pond water I would not be shocked if Halak gets the start.
I think it'll be Price too:

  • Habs have two games in two nights after the break -- it'll be one each, next weekend for Price & Halak; that'll give Halak his every "4th game or so"
  • I imagine Carbo wouldn't mind seeing Price notch his first shut-out, and further boost his confidence; Islanders are as good an opportunity as any

This team is better than the the 93 team. Things aren't clicking yet and we are still winning.

What people are taking for granted is that the Canadiens are that good, and the rest of the Eastern conf is that bad. What does that equal? One way ticket to...............

Please don't explain to me that things happen, my earliest memories are of Dryden holding his own in the crease and people talking about Penny being the next Dryden.

I gamble for entertainment :), this game is one for winning margin in the Canadiens favour. If by chance the Isles find some balls, then maybe they get to OT, but after all the PK in St Paul last night, the Canadiens will walk all over these guys.

So I say again, who on Earth would take the Isles? :D:D:D

there is alot of work to be done before we can be bragging like that, i dont think the rangers would agree that we are the team to beat

Price is the confirmed starter...I read it in the Montreal Gazette this morning.

Overconfident??? With the way they've been playing, they should be over-embarassed. Hey, maybe we'll give the Islanders 11 power plays, right?

My prediction this game: Habs play sloppy and soft, take more penalties than their opponent, get outshot, and hope that their goalie can steal the game for them.

My prediction next game: Habs play sloppy and soft, take more penalties than their opponent, get outshot, and hope that their goalie can steal the game for them.

(repeat and fade)

playing with fire and we will eventually be burned if not tonight

it is a big deal, taking stopper and dandenault out our forecheck and PK wont be as good tonight

If there's one thing that Begin is good at is forecheck and PK. I, for one, am glad that those guys get a chance to get their legs going as they're only victims of our great depth this season, nothing else. If we let them sit too long, not only won't it be good for the team spirit, but they'll be rusty and won't be able to perform as well when we need them to.

I'm not going to be able to catch this game live...will have to watch it tomorrow. I have a charity thing to attend for Sick children's hospital. Carey will have a good game! Go Price Go! I predict a win 4-1. However it will be a mistake if the guys take this game to lightly. They still have to show up for a whole 60 minutes, and it looks like Carbo's making sure they don't...."We've done a good job this year of not taking teams for granted," said Carbonneau. "We've been beating the teams that are below us in the standings." Carbo demands more displine

Go Habs Go

Go Habs Go

Go Habs Go

The only thing that got me through work today was thinking that the Habs game was going to be televised here in NY... but of course MSG is showing the Sabres game. *sigh* Ohhhh well.

I'm predicting a Habs win... but it won't be an easy one. Low scoring game... Denis will feel like he has something to prove to the Habs, and Carey will be his typical self. Pleks will score a goal. I hope.

GO HABS, GO!
