Dintrox12
I think a democrat in office is a good thing for the US. The democrats also enjoy a majority in both houses so maybe Barack can get some work done... As for the tax system, Warren Buffet a critic of the tax system revealed he pays 17.7% on his substantial income while his employees paid an average of 32.9% -- something is screwy with a system that taxes low to mid incomes at a higher rate than billionaires ... maybe just maybe Barack and the demos will address this issue... tmash
As for the tax system, Warren Buffet a critic of the tax system revealed he pays 17.7% on his substantial income while his employees paid an average of 32.9% -- something is screwy with a system that taxes low to mid incomes at a higher rate than billionaires My guess is that his "income" is from capital gains which is taxed at a lower rate than employment income. For him, employment income is negligible, while for average Americans, that is the majority of their income, capital gains is a small percentage. So it isn't a matter of billionaires being taxed at a lower rate, they are actually taxed at a higher rate, it's just that billionaires don't make money from employment income, it comes from the stock market, which is considered a different source of income. KRod
Well I have no problem with that, I only came out strongly against your position because, quite frankly you were raining on my parade before all the votes have been counted, I was a bit emotional. With that said I totally respect what I'd call institutional voters, people who vote party lines no matter what, because I basically am that person. I vote from a moral position as well, my morals could never allow me to vote Republican no matter how wreckless I thought a Democrat would spend my money, yours are apparently the opposite. I still think your philosophy on the "hard workers" giving back to those "abusing" the system is a bit of conservative kool-aid, but I'd just as well agree to disagree. Discussing these issues on a Habs forum is a bit trite. Agreeing to disagree is a good idea. Everyone is entitled to their opinions, and ours differ. No problem with that. It would be a boring world if we all agreed on everything. And - after giving myself time to cool off and look at the big picture, I'm anxious to see what Obama will do to better the country that I call home. I'm cautiously excited to see what changes he will bring... hopefully it'll be a better place for EVERYONE.
tmash
Obama was top of his class at the best law school in the country. Mccain picked a running mate who it came out today (according to a Mccain aide) thought Africa was a country and didn't know the three countries of NAFTA! 357908_1475251331
america is the nation with the lowest rating for treason in the entire kaleidascope of nations, meaning that every day something happens in this country that other nations just shudder at the thought of it happening in their homes. after being engaged in five civil wars- korea, vietnam, nicaragua, serbia, and iraq, one would think that we should stop thinking we live the year of other nations, and put into the constitution that the us will respect the right of nations to their own space.
