Johnny_rudeboy
"The Philadelphia Flyers announced that they have acquired 6'0", 205-pound defenseman Matt Carle and the San Jose Sharks' third round pick in the 2009 NHL Entry Draft from the Tampa Bay Lightning in exchange for Steve Eminger, Steve Downie and Tampa Bay's fourth round pick in the 2009 NHL Entry Draft, according to club General Manager Paul Holmgren." Ok, Carle is a way better than Eminger, but Downie is not so bad... could be a good 3rd line player.
GRETZKYANDGRAF
Carle = Flop. How can someone do so poorly in SJ then get traded to Tampa and do so poorly there that he gets traded again. He had one good season and hasn't showed anything since.
jl-1
Carle = Flop. How can someone do so poorly in SJ then get traded to Tampa and do so poorly there that he gets traded again. He had one good season and hasn't showed anything since. He only played two season! Isn't it too soon to call him a flop? Is Sergei Kostitsyn a flop? Is Latendresse a flop? Is Halak a flop? What we do know at this point is that he's capable of great things as he's done it two years ago, that he's still young and I would certainly wait before giving up on him. franck5890
How can you call this guy a flop? Have you even seen him play? Have you checked his stats? He was very good in San Jose, especially considering his age. The guy has great vision and a good shot from the point, and he's still relatively young for a defenseman. westernleafsfan
Tampa seems to try and get the first overall pick yet again honestly, they got robbed in that trade... shame gainey didn't pull the trigger on that, there was our #4 D... I wonder how hard Tampa was shopping him if that's all they got. I remember when Thorton got traded a lot of GMs didn't even know he was available. Works out for Philly though. What a mess in Tampa. Downie and Emminger is like us trading Lapierre and Bouillon. I bet you anything Gainey didn't know about this. EDIT: In a couple of years, we could have had Matt Carle and Mathieu Carle on the same pairing. That would have confused the heck out of Bob Cole! Innis_Mor
... Downie is not so bad... could be a good 3rd line player. Not in the NHL .... not from what I've seen anyway. Does Tampa even have a GM in the regular sense of the word or are the owners calling the shots?Either way the work is all pretty daft. My favorite from this group so far is signing Gary Roberts for $2.4MM ..... he's playing 4th line, 10 minutes a game, and has yet to notch a point in 11 games. Utterly brilliant!! Downie and Emminger is like us trading Lapierre and Bouillon. I bet you anything Gainey didn't know about this. EDIT: In a couple of years, we could have had Matt Carle and Mathieu Carle on the same pairing. That would have confused the heck out of Bob Cole! Cole would just start calling all the players on the ice "Carle" (instead of his ususal "he"). Downie can't even crack the Flyer line-up most nights. He's too slow for the (new) NHL game. fourtrax
Does Tampa even have a GM in the regular sense of the word or are the owners calling the shots? Unclear, but what is clear is that they don't know squat about running an NHL franchise. If they did, they'd know that building a team through drunken-sailor spending in free agency without any D is a recipe for disaster, especially in a cap world. Brisebois
Tampa seems to try and get the first overall pick yet again If they end up with the first overall pick they would draft Tavares first instead of Hedman. Although they need D more than anything else. Smart trade by Philly however.

DA_Champion
I think the strategy in TB is to win all the games 10-8. They must be taking the viewpoint that Americans like to see a lot of goals, and so they're concentrating all on offense.
westernleafsfan
No. the leafs will come in 9th this year. it'd be even better if they came in 8th... so the habs have free pass for the 2nd round (being #1 seed that is)

I said it before and ill say it again. The new owners are acting like they are playing fantasy hockey or EA Sports NHL series and not the real thing.
