Bourne
Yes I know another topic of mine however I found this on different forum and it seemed like a decent question to discussion. Who do you view as the top three players thus far this season, who have contributed immensely and in contrast who have you been disappointed with. The Stars Honorable Mentions: Josh Gorges, Roman Hamrlik #3) Andrei Markov - Hard not to have a best of list for the Habs and neglect to include Markov in my opinion. The man is fantastic, yet unfortunately he does seem out of place this season having lost our Souray/Streit pointman. Nonetheless he has been one of our driving forces and often our best player behind the above. #2) Alex Tanguay - Easily our most productive player this season and considering I had written him off as washed up with his poor performance in Calgary, I am quite impressed with how he has turned out. I am not sold on his position at the point during our powerplay however that is no fault of his. It would seem Tanguay has taken Kovalev's role currently. #1) Saku Koivu - The man has been a work horse from start to finish and I do not recall him having even a bad game this season as of yet. He has proven his leadership is sound and even attempted to renew the passion we seem to lack sporadically. The Busts Dishonorable Mentions: Alexi Kovalev, Guillaume Latendresse, Steve Begin, Jaroslav Halak (to a degree) #3) Tomas Plekanec - He has slumped practically every game thus far and shows little signs of improvement. I cannot fathom why he simply dropped, poor defensive play, horrendous decision making; twice resulting in perfect opportunities being allowed to slip by and frankly an overall poor performance from what I believed to be one of our better players. #2) Ryan O'Byrne - The sole reason he did not claim the first spot for my most disappointed player is because I never expected much from him to begin with. Regardless O'Byrne has been a skating disaster this season; it has come to the point I fear him touching the puck for the scenario is rarely positive. With all our defensive prospects waiting to breach the line up I am rather surprised his terrible performance has been tolerated this long. Beyond not scoring in our own net there is hardly anything he has done correctly and it is time for him to either shape up or ship out. #1) Mike Komisarek - Easily in my opinion the most disappointing player on the roster due admittedly to high expectations. Weep said it best in another topic, citing he is akin to Souray yet not in a positive way and I cannot agree more. Komisarek has been little more then a Boullion upgrade; he can hit, block shots and not much else. His defensive awareness has been questionable and his offense is lacking, furthermore he has lost almost all synergy with Markov and I am beginning to wonder why he was coveted as league wide wanted commodity. koreysecord1992
Koivu and Tanguay definitely take the tops in "star" category. As for disappointments, A. Kostitsyn, Plekanec, Komisarek come to mind immediately.
SK74_mtl
I'm impressed but not surprised by Koivu & Tanguay. Disappointed with Laraque's effectiveness, A.Kostitsyn, and Plekanec.

I guess you missed how he tried to injure Carey Price with one hell of a cheap shot. That kid was lucky i wasn't playing for the canadiens because i would have rip his head off and threw it in the stands in the upper levels. The Star: 1. Tanguay & Koivu = instant chemistry. The Bust: 1. Laraque because he ain't bringing nothing to this team.

roy_133
Stars Tanguay Halak Kostopulous I wouldn't call Halak a star so far, he's been satisfactory for his role IMO. It's hard to be a star when you're not playing as much, I'm not trying to blame him or anything. I think Saku definitely deserves to be there with Tanguay. FirstStar
I wouldn't call Halak a star so far, he's been satisfactory for his role IMO. It's hard to be a star when you're not playing as much, I'm not trying to blame him or anything. I think Saku definitely deserves to be there with Tanguay. I feel the same way about Halak... You can't expect too much from him when he plays once every few weeks. When Price had a bad game people blamed it on having 5 days off. Halak didn't lose us the game against Philly, sloppy did that. Disappointments: Komi, Lats, Kovy(not entirely his fault), Pleks, Price (in certain circumstances) and S Kos. Lang is a 20 goal scorer, he's well on his way, can't expect too much from him. Although, he has been slacking as of late, could pick it up a bit. Needs to win FO's. A Kos Needs to get his head back in the game and get over his injury, more a case of bad luck in his case. Higgins Had a spark, but needs to keep it up and hit the open net. Gorges and Hamrlik are probably our most solid d-men. Hamrlik did well on the point at the beginning of the year, why not give him another chance.

FlHabsFan
Sounds like our most effective line from 2007-2008 has become our liability line. What happened to A.Kosti, Pleks, Kovy this year?
habs_10
WOOOOW... ok let me start by sharing my 3 worst and best of the year, then i wanna get somethin off my chest that has been driving me nuts so far this season with what people call a disappointment... best so far: KOIVU, MARKOV, TANGUAY (although he just seems to be in the right place at the right time and it's eally koivu making him have a good year so far, but the points is what matters) disappointments: LARAQUES (although it's not his fault. we have a tough guy that no one wants to fight) PRICE (although the media calls him calm and cool, maybe he should start feeling urgency cuz calm and cool isn't workin for him) KOMISAREK (he's still playing with grit, but not like last year) THE K BROTHERS (for obvious reason they aren't scoring) HIGGINS I know that was more than 3 As for all you who say Plekanec is a disappointment. For whoever has played hockey in their lifetime will recognize his effort on the ice. Of course pierre houde will blame the slump on guys like him, God forbid they blame the sloppy drop passes of Latendresse or how everytime he puts a stick on anyone, he brings more attention to himself by raising his hand like a guilty soccer player does and draws the penalty. Plekanec is all over the ice all the time. kills 5-3's brilliantly. he's always trying and skating hard and never lets up. Never. u can notice it every game and send me a pm if he ever lets up cuz he doesn\t. he's a center. notice how he plays in our defensive zone gets involved offensively and then right back in the defensive zone. fine he's not scoring like last year, but he can't score alone with a slumping andrei K and Kovy. so there LOL (and no... he's not a friend or family member) oh and lucic sux
Guest habs1952
The whole team is a bust. That's not to say they are all playing lousy but as a group they haven't got it together. Star...Koivu. Star... Price. Plecanec seems to be getting it going. Every one else is struggling.
gracie12
I Graeme's way of breaking it down: IMHO: Exceeding (my) Expectations: Koivu Tanguay Latendresse Bouillion Price Lang Dandenault (not that he's been great, but WOW has he played better than I expected) Gorges (see dandenault) Meeting (my) Expectations: (doesnt mean they're not doing well, just that they are where I hoped/thought they would be) Markov Hamrlik Lapierre Brisebois Halak Kostopolous Failing to Meet (my) Expectations: Plekanek Kovalev Komisarek O'Byrne Andrei Kostitsyn Sergei Kostitsyn Begin Laraque Higgins Hamrlik did well on the point at the beginning of the year, why not give him another chance. A bit off topic for this thread but man I could not agree more. People forget this is a former 65pt scorer. He's scored goals in the double digits over 6 times in the nhl. I understand that the coaches want him available for first unit Pk, but surely he could handle a little PP time, no?

amp73
Exceeding my expectations Tanguay - I expected his pt totals to decline not to go up since that 's what usually happens to players who sign with Montreal. I hope he re signs next year Price - he's done quite well IMO considering his play in last year's playoff's Gorges - When he was picked from SJ I thought he was a fill in, nothing more. He has impressed me Meeting my expectations Koivu - not expecting 80 + points from him. Higgins - liek Koivu - I'm not expecting big pt totals from him. He is hard working two way player not a sniper Komisarek _ I think last year's shoulder injury may have carried forward into this year and the fight with that idiot in Boston just flared it up again Markov - steady as can be consdering the supporting cast . I remember last year, or the yr before, he carried the puck into the other's teams zone on the PP and then kinda raised his arms as if to say " where are you guys ?" Lang - nothing spectacular Laraque - - he was brought in to be our resident heavey weight not to score . He is not an instigator , so I don't expoect him to start fights and score goals Halak Dandenault Brisebois Boullion Hammer Kosto Not up to my expectations Plekanek - Kovalev - should probably be in the " Meeting " category as he is playing the was he always plays which is inconsistent Andrei Kostitsyn -re gressing instead of progressing O'Byrne - doesn't use his size Sergei Kostitsyn - see his brother Lapierre - I dunno. Cheap signing but guys like him or a dime a dozen in the NHL Begin - unfortunatley he hasn't been given much of a chance since he's been scratched from quite a few games , otherwise I would classify him as " meeting expectations " I think I missed # 84 - not sure where he falls . He was doing quite well on the lien with # 11 and # 13 . Then he was taken off the line , then he got hurt Myabe they should leave him with Koivu for a while and see how it pans out
amp73
Not up to my expectations - at this point in the season All 3 Coaches - The PP is worse, so far , this year I don't get to see many games but when I read the gameday threads I see people commenting on the same things Undisciplned play Too many penalties not enough shots Being outplayed No effort etc etc Meeting my expectations - at this point in the season GM- I will give him credit as he appears to be trying to sign a big name , top flight free agent for the past three years . It's not his fault they do not want to sign here. As for trades. There are not many big trades happening in today's NHL so I don't expect BG to trade Montreal's 4th liners for someone else's star With 8 to 10 UFA's next year , " Meeting expectations " could turn to " Not up to expectaions " quickly if he doesn't get some quality players signed to contarcts next year . Kubby31
Have been impressed with tanguay's addition and what he's done so far. Koivu's off to a great start also. Not really happy at this point with #27 Kovalev,A.kostitsyn. Also, like to see more effort of what Laraque was brought in to do,has not taken care of business of lately. GO HABS... Larry-Robinson
Tanguay has been a good addition so has Lang.Laraque is doing nothing even when he is in.I mean he was here to stop other teams from beating on our smaller players and to take away Komi from fighting. So far when he has been in we have Komi out with an injury from fighting.I have been disappointed in The Kostitshyn brothers not even close to their game,Kovalev looks uninterested.Koivu is Koivu playing his ***** off.Tender has to play with more of a mean streak,so does O'byrne if they are going to stay in the lineup.Kostopolus has been playing good and has been good at every line he has been put on.Higgns is skating hard but seems to be snake bite around the net.Price has been real good cn't stop what you can't see,so far this year i've seen a few goals go in on complete screen shots.Halak has also played well but our offense seems to be stuck on 2 -3 goals per game.
