Its funny how many vancouver fans seem to think Sundin = finals

No offence, but the same could be said for Habs fans . Heck, people think the Habs were goign to the finals without Sundin.

My only issues , is he , Sundin, did everything he said he didn't want to do .

On face value, (and granted, this is only one game), it would appear the Canucks will need more than just Sundin and Luongo to get by Detroit and still have enough to bury the Sharks:

When Detroit, San Jose (and the Bruins?) want to turn it on (and they likely will in the play-offs), they are really tough to beat.

Whens his first game?

Any plan as to when he will play

Im dieing to see it

He was supposed to report to the team today, but they said in last night's game that he won't practice with the team until after the weekend. He won't speak to the media & fans until Tuesday. Most are guessing he'll start playing in one of the early January home games. I'm hoping he'll be in the line-up by the time I go over for the game on Jan 10th vs the Sharks.

One winger option for him is down, albeit a winger that was pretty low on the list. Taylor Pyatt is out for a while now. At least it takes care of clearing a roster space for Sundin.

Sundin will probably play with Demitra and Raymond or Wellwood, although there's also Hansen and Bernier that could be slotted in there. Then again, Demitra was playing with the twins by the end of last night's game so right now it's anyone's guess who Sundin will line up with. You might as well spin a wheel with Demitra, Raymond, Wellwood, Bernier, and Hansen's names on it to determine his linemates.

According to tonight's broadcast, Sundin's first practice with the team (and media session after) will be Tuesday, Jan 30.

Speculation by the broadcasters has Sundin playing as early as Jan 4th. The next game, on the 7th, is on the road against a divisional rival, then the Canucks are home again for 5 so he should (he'd better) be in the line-up during that homestand.

Two theories:

  1. Deja vu all over again (Hogglund, Tucker, Roberts, etc.); and /or
  2. He's following Wellwood about

So much for him not being a rental player. If he would have taken one of the offers at the beginning of the season he would have gotten a longer contract I'm sure.

Instead he took the money and he's the chump everyone thought he was. Maybe when this contract is up he won't take 6+ months to decide if he wants to play in the NHL, get off the pot and actually sign with a team that has a chance to win the cup. Looks like greed won out after all good job Matts.

Apologies for the bump, but posters were asking when Sundin would play.

It appears Sundin will play Wednesday, Jan 7 in Edmonton.

He has traveled with the team to Edmonton (didn't go on the previous roadtrip), Jannik Hansen was sent down to the minors to clear roster space, and the team 1040 (Vancouver sports radio) is reporting Sundin will dress for the game.

I think Mats Sundin is brilliant...

first, he's taking all that ridiculous money from the Canucks...

and second, he still took 20 days from the time he signed until he played his first game... that's actually the longest time he could have spent in a pre-season training camp according to the CBA... so, despite knowing he was coming back, he did nothing to accelerate getting into game shape?!!!

the guy is a genius...

Makes me very happy that the Habs didn't sign him. Quite obvious that he waited till all the contending teams dropped out of the bidding war and signed with the highest bidder. If he wanted to sign with a contender he would have done so in Sept-Oct.

I've lost all respect for him and I hope the NHL puts in a rule or something to prevent these players from signing mid season like this.

Because hes really good

I know that his decision drove me nuts through the summer until the Lang deal surfaced. Even after that I awaited patiently,I'd be a liar to say that he's not worth it. Now I hope we play Vancouver in the Finals, all Canadien Final, oh that wasn't a misspell.
