SteenIsThaFuture
Hockeysfuture.com, the biggest public information about hockey prospects and hockeys equivalent of baseballamerica, has released its organazational rankings for 2009, and the Habs system is ranked 8th, down from 4th of last year, heres the analysis: Strengths: Despite on-ice success in recent years, the Canadiens still host a deep, talented prospect pool. They have a plethora of valuable blueliners that cover many different roles. Offensive-minded players like P.K. Subban, Yannick Weber and Mathieu Carle are complimented well with physical defensive players like Ryan O'Byrne, Alexei Yemelin and Pavel Valtenko. Don't forget the next big thing on the Montreal blueline: Ryan McDonagh. They still possess a fairly strong group of forwards, despite recent graduations. Maxwell and Chipchura are the organization's top two-way centers, while Max Pacioretty made his mark as a talented power forward who is progressing quickly. Weaknesses: The forward depth, while not awful, has taken some big losses, even if Danny Kristo becomes the sniper he's projected to be. Despite a deep defense, the huge stalwart that eats minutes isn't really there. There aren't many prominent world-beaters, in terms of speed, left in the organization. Top five prospects: 1. Ryan McDonagh, D, 2. Max Pacioretty, LW, 3. Ryan O'Byrne, D, 4. Jaroslav Halak, G, 5. Ben Maxwell, C. Key losses to graduation: Carey Price, Andrei Kostitsyn, Sergei Kostitsyn, Maxim Lapierre. The drop in ranking must be due to Andrei and Price graduating, suprirsing to see them rank Maxwell that high.
ohboy
The drop in ranking must be due to Andrei and Price graduating, suprirsing to see them rank Maxwell that high. Probably just due to his recent call-up, unless they think Chippy and Dags are both flops. I also dont know how they put O'Byrne above Halak, and im not knocking O'Byrne. Halak could be a starter for a team someday soon.

DA_Champion
It's surprising David Fischer and Kyle Chipchura don't get a mention.
Rocket-1
It's surprising David Fischer and Kyle Chipchura don't get a mention. "Maxwell and Chipchura are the organization's top two-way centers, while Max Pacioretty made his mark as a talented power forward who is progressing quickly." David Fischer is not progressing like he should be, that's probably why. But anyway i think right now it's safe to say that Hockeysfuture is full of it with O'byrne being in the top five prospects (im not judging him on this year alone, but for me he's no where near the top 5) And the fact that they don't even mention Mats D'Agostini name once in that report says a lot on their credibility. S-Bah
link: http://www.hockeysfuture.com/teams/montreal_canadiens Habs were a few years back 2nd to 4th, now 8th is because the habs best player are playing in the nhl. Habs best players are the ones Managing the team. I'm sure the competition knows this, we are building another powerhouse from the goalies; Price,Halak and Denis. The defence is second to none in depth for sure. The forwards are on par with the best if we can avoid injuries, they would have a chance to become cohesive units. If ratings took into account these intangibles our rating would be #1, #2 or#3.

It's a ranking of prospects though...Also you've got to keep in mind, that any schmuck with a computer and the internet can become a writer for Hockey's future.
