During TSN's broadcast of the Edmonton Oilers-St. Louis Blues game, Darren Dreger reported during the 2nd intermission that there has been steady dialogue between the Montreal Canadiens and Tampa Bay Lightning about Vincent Lecavalier. Sources are saying that there are some in the Bolts organization who want to trade Vinny, and some who don't. Lecavalier's agent has flown down to Tampa to "quiet" down the issue and clear the status of his client. Dreger adds that up to 4 NHL roster players could be involved, and the deal could likely involve forwards Chris Higgins and Tomas Plekanec, defenseman P.K. Subban and draft picks/prospects.

I was watching the TSN game and i caught this on TV. Certainly a lot of Lecavalier rumors out there.

As much as i would like to see Vinny L in a Habs uniform, the contract may be troublesome down the road and if he doesn't really want to play in Montreal, I don't wanna see him there.

I think i'd rather see a Kovalchuk.

But the names talked about seems like a fair deal. Obviously, Vinny would be an upgrad on Pleks, Higgins could be replace by the Habs depth on forward, same as others involved.

Normally I'd say DONE!!!! Pleks, Subban and Higgins, while I think these guys make a great core for a team and I would normally not trade them for anything...except Vinny.

However, an 11 year contract for 89M$US is ALOT. A cap hit of about 8.1M$ per season. I'd wait and sign my UFA/RFA that I'm keeping 1st and see if it works under the new cap that's going to be around 50M$.

I'd do it...Vinny's worth it IMO...But, as with most things involving BG and MTL, I'll believe it when I see it.

Would be great if he had a reasonable contract..

Like 5 yrs,

Heck upto5-7 yrs.. as thats what we were going to offer briere.

Problem is 11 yrs.

Shooting yourself in the foot for no reason

I have come to believe that in the new NHL,these over & above player's long-term signings do come back to hurt the them in the end.

Yea,if Gainey ever signed a player to a 11 yr contract, i'd shoot him in the foot myself.

Look at the mess that ottawa has gotton them selves into, and we are all aware off the leafs recent mess of locking up players, that end up being a mistake ,sucks to be them,eh.

Would like to have seen Lecavalier in montreal, but not at paying such a high cost to bring him in,just so we all can moan & groan about it down the road, because if for whatever reason it backfired on us,we all would want BG's head, you know what i'm saying?

I will pass on this one, GO HABS GOOOOO.

they are actually talking about it now on team 990, and bob mackenzie seems to think it is possible, but not a given.

Could be interesting to see what happens here.

They have actually had dialoque, and I wonder... when Al strachan mentioned that vinny would be a hab on the hot stove

last year if he knw something.

Interesting, cause the only time he has mentioned a rumor was when pronger wnated out of edmonton, and he was right.

Time will TELL i GUESS!!

I would LOVE to see Vinny in a Hab uniform; however I hate the contract and the contract term, but in business and in life you often have to take the good with the bad. I would be willing to take a chance to trade for Vinny, because I think playing for the Habs might spark him, and he will put up a lot of points (he was/is in the Top 5 scorers). I think Montreal is the thing that could help him play with the spark and start racking up the points again. IMO I would take the risk on Vinny in a Habs uniform.

The press meeting is to discuss how the team and players are doing so far...

Ya, don't wanna get my hopes up, would love to see him with the habs, most likely just a

update, but as mentioned gillette has been in town, and something has been up and as mentioned

on tsn, speculation has it that they are putting a package together, so I guess we will find out soon.

I suppose that's what sportsfreak 39 has implied,by TSN running their mouths, this is how we habs fan always seem to get our hopes high, then we get our little hearts broken.:lol:

I would love this trade!!!! We have so much depth that we can afford to move a few NHL players and a top D

prospect and then some. As for the contract I am comfortable with the dollar impact since $8MM won't be a lot in 3 or so years. The lentgh of the contract is a problem. A problem I think the Habs could deal with.

But until I see a deal that brings Vinny to Mtl I won't believer the rumours.

Ya very true, I hear you, been feeling the same way. Mind you, this time it is on tsn and has been reported by

Dreggar and mackenzie, so lets face it, if they are saying it, it is true, not to say the trade will happen, but...

It is being discussed.

TSN also implies that the rumor is more about a management argument in Tampa than about Montreal-Tampa negotiations.

Ugh, board having issues with me today...

Lecavalier's contract:

Year 1: 10.000

Year 2: 10.000

Year 3: 10.000

Year 4: 10.000

Year 5: 10.000

Year 6: 10.000

Year 7: 10.000

Year 8: 8.500

Year 9: 4.000

Year10: 1.500

Year 11: 1.000

Annual cap hit: 7.720

7.7 is actually not a bad price for a player with his skill set. The duration of his contract is debatable. He'll be 39 the last year of his contract which does make him old and begs the question "will he still be good?". However let's try not to forget the fuss guys like 37 year old Sundin and 39 year old Shanahan have been making around the league this year. A 7.7M cap hit would still be less than what we were expected to give Sundin for two years.

I'm not sure if I'm in favor of this sort of trade, but it makes sense. Plekanec's is playing hot right now, but there's no telling if his play will continue or fall back to his Oct/Nov performances, Subban's value is probably higher right now than management had expected, and Higgins has spent most of the season out of the lineup.
