I can believe the Niskanen part but idk how richards fits into this who has a no-trade clause AND with a 7.8mil salaray I dunno how that would fit into the cap of the canadiens. Niskanen is < 1 mill but I'd rather have another D-man than him...unless this thing invovles richards

It'd be interesting to see who they would have to give up for this to happen...

Id be less concerned withe salary aspect of things - as we have tons available with Lang out for the year & the long injuries to guys like Koivu, Tanguay and even Laracque - these arent cheap cap hits.

What makes me call 'fake' is why on earth would Dallas move their best centre - 28 years old and a playoff warrior - PLUS a 22 year old, promising puck moving defenseman?

What on earth could we be offering that would make them want to lose those 2? Price? markov? They arent moving those guys for Higgins, Boullion and a 2nd rounder. the very fact that eklund says it could be a "decoy" makes me think its bogus. If it doesnt happen (which it wont) then he just says "sorry guys, I knew it sounded fishy, thats why i called it a decoy"

Best part of the article was:

Since I do rumors every day of the year I have a pretty impressive list of people who put out rumors that I do not trust.

Are you on that list, Ek?

If this rumor is anything more than unsubstantiated fluff, I'll eat my pants. Dallas has been on a tear recently, clawing their way up from the bottom of the league into 6th place in the Western Conference. Why on earth would they trade one of their top offensive forwards? When Eklund is questioning the integrity of the rumor, you know it's bogus. :)

Okay lets just pretend that this is substantial and not: Lets create a bogus Habs rumor so we can make speculation and draw clicks/views .

Why do the Habs want Richards, a guy whose getting paid 7.8 million (more than Vinny FYI) until 10-11 when he doesn't even produce at a PPG rate and hasn't for a few years despite being given monster ice time?

Niskanen would be fine. However, I think it's possible BG (for once) is using his very well known contacts from Dallas to put pressure on Tampa Bay in the Lecavalier case.

It's twisted, but I believe Bob mckenzie is spot on with the kind of tactics.

Saying he's more than vinny is a bit unfair because vinny is making $10m - the cap hit is almost the same simply because vinny is signed until he's in a home - thus balancing it all out. Richards' contract would be much easier to swallow because he's free to walk (or you from him) when he's only 31 years old.

As for his cost vs. production - he's a heck of a lot more player than just points. Id take a guy like richards at close to a ppg over a guy who scores 90+pts but is solely one dimensional anyday.

Thank being said, I think the story is bogus and even if it wasnt, I dont think Richards is the answer to our problems - especially not based on what it would likely cost to acquire him.

I don't think it'll cost all that much to acquire Richards and I would'nt mind having a Conn Smythe trophy winner in the dressing room for the playoff hunt.

I'd like to have him, but why would Dallas move Richards? They are back in the playoffs and are on fire right now.

And don't you think they want to keep their Conn Smythe trophy winner for that period of the year? Yes they do.

And it would cost more than you think.

When Tampa won the cup:

Richards »»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»» »»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»» Lecavalier.

Richards is not moving, Lecavalier is not either.

Weight anybody?

Nylander if we get lucky.

I'd be good with getting Weight, he's still got hands.

Lucky to get Nylander?

Nylander will be lucky if any team wants to sign him after the last two seasons he's had in Washington. He's been a healthy scratch, he's seen 4th line duties because he is not capable of putting up points. If you want another Samsonov than Nylander is your guy.

Last year injuried badly and not a good start to this season by Nylander at all, but as of late he´s been quite good actually (had a talk with the coach and been much better after that). He would be helpfull for this team, no doubt about that. Is he the first choice I would go after...nope and I dont think Gainey will either if not everything goes south for him on the tradedeadline.

About Richards, he's good but like many before me it doesnt make much sense from Dallas point of view does it. Is it the ressesion that have hit Dallas owners hard here ? I havent heard anything about that myself and it seems like nonsense to me right now anyway.
