Kovy Sent Home... Sergei Down To Hamilton

I personally love Kovy and knowing him, he might hate this and be mad, but i think this will actually do him good especially with the all star game, he got no rest. So he gets sent home for 2 games and sergei down to hamilton, which i think he deserves. Unless this is all for a huge trade coming up, but i doubt it.

Will kovalev be traded?

It is trading season isn't it - Bob gainey

BOB BOB BOB BOB

MMW he will only be traded if the team does better without him in the line-up, which I suspect they will. It's funny, yet brilliant how Gainey works. He trades for an excited and enthusiastic offensive, stable and experienced defensemen for a 2nd and third rounder to get a jump start on the trading preceedings and might just trade Kovalev for the 2nd and third round picks he lost, but quite possible at a better position. Genius, pure genius.

As for Sergei, he will be back with the team he just needs a kick in the a**.

pierre McGuire soke about this on 990 this afternoon he did the same thing to geoff sanderson once and sanderson responded with a 40 goal season, so we should keep our fingers crossed. I personally think guy is a pain in the @_s , he rode ryder out of town and he guy does not understand what makes koivu tick

I'm sure Bob won't trade Kovalev for a 2nd+3rd. He was the MVP in the allstargame and maybe some idiot gm will think he's in a slump and give a ridicoulous trade offer

if you ask me the whole problem is that you CAN'T refocus a guy like kovalev. the guy has the talent to be the mvp of the all star game, but when it comes to playing on a team that is in the running for a cup he has to consider that he has a role to play= scoring goals.

this team- and the key word is team- will not miss kovy for a couple of games, but the coaches certainly will if they are worth teir salt- and it will separate the men from the boys.

it sounds to me like gainey knows there are too many good coaches for what happens on the team, and i think with the window open for sergei to go down to hamilton, one of the four coaches will be pushed into a more logical mindet, and there WILL be benefit from kovy taking the cue.

this may or may not have a positive affect on kovy but i think it's a high risk move unless bob is already intent on trading him. calling kovy out publicly is wrong. why take your most skilled player out of the lineup when you desperately need to win?

i was a bit shocked listening to some kovy audio posted after the last game on hio kovy interview. basically, he refutes that getting pucks at the net is a good strategy and that he thinks it's better to get "quality" shots. unfortunately, most goals are scored by shooting the puck at the net and do 1 or more of: screen the goaly, deflect the shot, get to the rebound. kovy needs to accept this reality and adjust his game a bit.

contrast this with schneid's philosophy of shooting the puck on the net (as opposed to missing the net as so often happens with the habs shooters this year). i say the jury's out on whether this improves the team.

I think we should stop talking about him being the MVP of the all star game... that's like saying he was the best at a shinny hockey game. it doesn't matter. that game has nothing to do with what it takes to be successful in the league, it takes a lot moe than just open passing and waiting around for a breakaway.

anyways...i have a feeling if the habs do well without him, he won't be back until sometime closer to the playoffs, when they make him starve to come back and play, not just after taking a week off to rest.

as for Carbo, not that it is his fault all of this, but i have been saying this from the beggining. You have a group of guys from GM to coach to the assistants who have always played a defensive offenseman's type of game. We have a team that can explode scoring wise, and we are struggling because these guys don't know how to get these guys to attack attack attack and score. Love Crabo cuz he's the habs coach, but we need a tough Keenan type in here to excel a young team like ours.

LOL at scheider wanting his 27 back....LOL

Well this will do one of two things, it will either motivate Kovy or end his time in Montreal. I think the way BG presented this to him will be a deciding factor in Kovys decision. If Bob made him feel like he really cared and was trying to help him then Kovy could respond in a positive manner. But if he made him fell like he was hanging all the teams problems on him, then he is done here.

I think SK has earned his trip to Hamilton, for a guy just breaking into the NHL he's not putting a lot of effort into his games(IMO). Hopefull this will wake him up and not have a negative effect on his brother.

Something had to be done, this is a start. If the play continues the way it has been, there are others that deserve the same fate.

Either this wakes him up and he does 100000 times better (so he'll put in a solid 8min per game effort) or he's traded...either way this is the last season he's wearing La Sainte Flannelle.

at this point I'd love to see the guy return to last years for for a stretch run, but if BG feels he can't/won't then go ahead and trade him for the pics lost in the Schneider trade or use him as filler in a blockbuster

I have been saying for some time that I think Kovy is playing hurt. Earlier in the year he was slumping, but this last stretch (2 months or so) he has looked...well, not even himself on nights he doesnt try. he's looked like he's trying but things arent working & because of that I think he's injured. Perhaps this rest will help.

Of course we could also play conspiracy theorists & say he's at home because Gainey has made a deal & the other team doesnt want Kovalev playing...hrm..and eklund is reporting pittsburg has a big deal coming in the next 24 hrs... Kovalev + Prospect for Staal? :P

It doesn't matter if he was an MVP at the all-star game. Wow.

Right who cares what he did in the all star-game, he's been playing like crap most of the season. Conflicts with Carbo? Probably, he's playing like he doesn't want to be here so if a good trade comes along and we can get market value for him unload him. Sorry not a big fan of Kovalev at all he plays when he wants to play, we need another player with heart like Koivu.

I agree 100 percent!

Sergei thing is questionable, but I agree with the move....

He'll be back eventually, he's not there to stay.

my prediction is that kovalev is going to end up like john leclair, as soon as we trade him is going to score 40+ goals and help what ever team he is on go far in the playoffs,(except the leafs of course)

Maybe

But I doubt it

Even if does happen it will never happen in Montreal where creativity is apparently not allowed

I think its a bold move by a calculative man. BG has been sitting on his hands for 2 months while the team has been taking that oh so familiar Post-Christmas swan dive. The trade was the first step but didnt have enough wow factor. Kovalev being sent him while "healthy" sends WOWS across the board. Look for the Habs to skate like hell tomorrow night and I think bond and win the game.

Gainey has basically just shown that he is the sheriff in this town, and even if he takes 20 paces instead of ten he can still turn and fire with the best.

Hopefully, this angers Kovalev like the russian team insult and awakens a sleeping giant. If not, its been great and terrible but always entertaining Kovy!

Sending Sergei down might cause Andrei to sulk. Hope it doesnt but they are really tight and love being on the team together. Stewart should play vs the Pens and slash Malkin all game.
