D'agostini Or Pacioretty?

while i don t agree with many of you that it s an easy choice, i too would lean towards pacioretty, simply because the topic is to choose between the two.

that being said, i would be very upset to see any one of them being sent down, because we neeed them both, and quite frankly, they ve played their way onto this team.D agostini brings a much needed scoring touch and pacioretty brings the grit of a begin with the talent of a latendresse.

tanguay koivu d agostini

kostsysin pleks kovalev

higgins lapierre pacioretty

latendresse IAN LAPERIERE kostopoulous/laraque

With the return of Tanguay and Latendresse waiting in the wings... I would suggest neither Pacioretty nor D'Agostini need to go... if the Kos-Bros are traded. Aftr the trade deadline I think the Habs can have an expanded roster in any case.

In the interim Stewart and Chipchura can and will be sent down IMO.

Patches was rather invisible last night. I would realy like to see him play with Saku over Dags all be it Dags had a decent game and brought something to the ice. Dags need to work on his defensive game in a big way. I think Patches can bring just as much as Dags in the offensive zone and he has the size to become the power forward we have long desired.

On another note Koivu is looking realy slow out there weather it be his skating or decision making.

If it were up to me, both of them would stay with the club.

I have been kind of disappointed with D'Ags game lately. Was trying to find him out there, but didn't do anything for me to notice him. And of course, his -14 is frightening. I had no clue he was so much in the red.

Pac Man FTW, i don't care what anyone says about him being to raw or any other use etc. I like the way he plays and hes one of the few players we can count upon to hit since Latendresse went down and he is one of our few power forwards who forechecks hard and strong, hes playing on a line whose players don't suit him and he still is playing better then Dag, thats all it takes for me

It's not even clear whether D'Agostini has a future as an NHLer. He may be a third-line option, he's a borderline second-line player. And he wasn't even a first-round pick. I have no idea why he's still up here and getting the minutes that he's getting at the expense of Pacioretty or Sergei. Anyone can have a hot streak, it means nothing. Marcel Hossa lit it up in his first few games with Montreal.

He's too small to be effective on the boards and not talented enough to create his own scoring opportunities in open ice with any regularity. He's more of what we've been trying to get away from: semi-talented, smallish wingers who get pulverized down low.

;) Bingo. Whats he done since his hot streak? Even back with Koivu, nothing. Even so when Lats comes back..(and Sergei for that matter) their both gonna have to go. But for Tangs just send Stewart down. Then Dags goes down when Lats comes back.

And when Laraque pulls his groin Sergei comes up...not Dags please.

Dagger started with a bang, but has really dropped off as of late.

Patches hasn't exactly been lighting up the scoreboard either, but he's starting to throw his weight around, so at least he's progressing at some level.

The other problem with Dagger is his defensive abilities, or lack thereof.

Currently, he has the worst plus-minus on the team with a -14 rating, and last season with the 'Dogs he posted an abysmal -22 despite racking up 53 points in 77 games.

Clearly Matt has to work on his play without the puck.

He's got talent, and I think he's got a future in this league, but he has to improve his all-around game if he is to find a permanent spot on the Habs roster.

My vote: Down with Dagger.

Great topic.

We need the right handed shot but we need an aggressive power forward to develop even more. Pacs is clearly the player with more potential. D'Agositini is a solid scorer, that should provide solid secondary scoring over his career as a 3rd line forward but pacs has first line potential that needs to be utilized and encouraged. Dags will end up having a Brian Savage like career, Pacs has the potential to be like Keith Tkachuk in his prime. We need to keep him up and give him minutes because next season he will be a top 6 forward.

I agree on the observations made re: D'Agostini's defensive game. That pretty much does it for me -- if his offensive game is at all better than Pacioretty's (and I am not saying it is; I'm just not sure on that one either way), the own zone coasting about and not taking a stick drives me absolutely nuts. D'Ags goes back to Hamilton, in my book.

What bothers me is that he's allowed to coast in his own zone and do nothing to help, while other players get punished for supposed defensive failings. There is no clear standard for all, just a selective standard. If you're the coach's favorite, all will be forgiven.

The minute Tanguay is healthy, Dags should go back to Hamilton.
