1stroundpick
Does anybody know what has happened to Sam Gagner ? This guy had so much promise and was playing like a future star last year. This year he has been invisible and I havent heard any talk about him . 6 Goals and 14 assists this season . mortwinkler
I often wonder the same thing. Both him and Cogliano were supposed to be huge factors for the Oilers and though Cogs has been much better than Gagner, he hasn't really been a huge impact for them this season. I've always thought that the Oiler's struggles as of late (the last couple of years) have come from bad moves (Penner) and weak coaching (Craig MacTavish). If it wasn't for Hemsky that team would be dead last. A new look behind the bench might work, it appears that MacT's time in Edmonton might be nearing an end. DVRichard
My wife is a huge Oiler's fan,(but I still love her!), and she is somewhat disappointed in Gagner's season as well. He seems to be suffering the sophomore blues as his linemates are as well. Nillson and Cogs are no where near there last year's totals. I can't agree with Habs Fan1160 with the Hemsky comment however. Yes, he is huge offensively for the Oilers, as is Horcoff and Souray, however, it is Roloson who is getting the wins for them. They are being out shot by miles and still able to get a few wins out of those games. Back to Gagner... He had 49 pts. last year with a minus 21. This year he only has 20 pts. to date, but is only a minus 5. I guess the improvement in his +/- is a good thing.
roy_133
Carbo was actually talking about Ganger the other day saying he's going through some struggles just like Carey, but since he doesn't play goalie in Montreal it isn't nearly the same kind of news. He'll be fine, like Carey, these guys are wayyyy too good to not turn it around. They're just going through the struggles of youth.
DVRichard
Just watching the Oil play now and Gagner has 1G and 1A in the first period vs. Nashville. One other thing to keep ing mind is that last year, alot of their veterans were injured so the 'Kid Line' had more ice time.
HolyNucks
I think there's been more pressure put on those kids to produce unlike last year. They are still very young and will hopefully get over this year and get their bright futures back on track, especially Gagner. Sophomore jinx sucks when you have 3-4 of them in your lineup. pcledrew
I live in Edmonton and have watched Sam play a few times and I was also at the game where they got dissected by Chicago. The talk of the town all week was Gagne+Cogliano vs. Kane+Toews and how it's going to be the matchup of the young super duos. Well Patrick and Jonathan won that match, with 5 points between them and Sam and Andrew recorded a shot or two if I remember correctly.
