Higgins should be a goal scorer but he's just not putting up the points. The effort is still there though, so I think that's why Gainey wants to keep him in the lineup. I think he'll be able to translate that effort into a solid defensive game.

I last year's playoffs he missed more open nets than Mark Hunter did against the Nordiques, for those unlucky enough to remember. He's no goalscorer, and I think checking might be the right role for him, if any

Price is in no man's land now...the league has figured out that he goes down too early so shoot high...most of his goals allowed are in the upper part of the net....except for the last shoot-out where the first 2 were high and then he looked high and got beaten 5 hole on the 3rd.....he's snake-bitten...this season is a wash now unless the team goes through the wall EVERY night and the start working their collective tails off especially along the boards

Looking forward to seeing Bryan(Little) play, he's family for me. That being said I want the thrashers to get stomped by the Habs tomorrow just stomped. Especially since the panthers tied us in the standings.

How do you know Bryan? He lived here in Cambridge.

All i know is, one of these goalies have to start playing, playoff calibre hockey, and now. Otherwise we are going nowhere at all. Not laying it all on the Tenders alone, but, at this time of year we can't be flipping goalies back and forth game after game. How many bloody times have we done this over the past years.

Does anybody else feel that Halak didn't really play that badly last game? Sure he let in one softie on Grabovski, but all the other goals were from prime areas, and our D was to blame, not him. He really should be given another chance. I really think Price is mentally toast for the rest of this season. Shooters have figured him out, and when he tries to compensate, he overcompensates.

:D Here is my improbable prediction:

Habs 8

Thrashers 1

2 Goals by Koivu, 1 goal 1 assist by Kovy, 3 assists by Tanguay

2 Goals for Andrei Kostitsyn, 1 goal 1 assist by Plekanec, 3 assists by S. Kostitsyn

1 Goal and 1 Assist for Lapierre, 1 goal and 1 assist for Kostopolous

5 Hits and 7 blocked shots for Komisarek, 2 hits and 2 blocked shots for Hamrlik, 1 HUGE hit for O'Bryne

To be honest, i thought Halak would be starting tonite, overall i think he's looked more focused than Price and competed harder.

Come on, Habs! Let's get the win tonight! and every night to the playoffs!

Habs Strategy.... squeek into 8th... take on the booins... take 'em out in 7 games... and then go on to win number 25! :)

"Playoff push" games are always very entertaining... hard for the heart but still very fun.

Wow, great game day thread!

Has my vote for post of the day!

As for the game... Halak has to get the start, sure his last game wasn't his best game, but it was only his 2nd game since being out with the flu (3rd if you count him coming in for Price). C'mon people, his 1st game back was against the Devils, the #2 team in the east and against Brodeur (who was a game away from tying Roy's record), talk about pressure! The boys seems to play with more confidence when Halak is between the pipes. Imo Price needs to sit the rest of the season, send him home (BC) and bring up Denis. If BG's plays anymore with Price's confidence, he might be cutting Price's career short. If Price is pushed too far he may never come back, for the sake of Price's career (and the future of this team), bench him!

The team has to come out hitting! Scare the Thrashers off the puck early, our centers have to win faceoffs, our wingers have to win the important battles along the boards and our "D" has to stop coughing up the puck in our own end.

With that said, the boys can win tonight if they play to win. Hopefully Sergei can get his brother producing again, they always play well on the same line. I hope his time in Hamilton was a humbling experience and calmed him down. C'mon Lats and Laps play your hearts out; we need another effort like Lats had against Ottawa and Laps had against the leafs.

Crossing fingers, toes and knocking on wood!

Let's go Habs!

Halak didnt let in 1 softie last game, but 2. The one between the legs that was atrocious and the other from Grabovski. I still can't believe this one got through. But whoever is in the net I don't care, to me goaltending is part of the problem but is far from being the major problem. Just because someone lets in 2 bad goals doesnt mean you have to stop playing.
