It would be neat if the Habs got Thornton and he knocked the Bruins out of the playoffs one year. That would be pretty good. There is value is having a guy who can put up points consistently during the regular season. The Habs haven't had a guy who can do that in a long time so it's hard to be picky IMO.

Ha, ha, this thread makes me laugh.

Does anyone here actually think for a second that either Lecavalier or Thornton would sign here after that disgusting display from the Habs fans last week?

Jeering Price, throwing garbage on the ice and chanting "Carrey, Carreeeyyyy..."

Keep dreaming, this is the exact reason why we can only sign trash here.

They're both under contract so they'd be acquired through trade anyway...

If they are traded, they frankly have no choice and I am not certain if Joe has a NTC meaning he has absolutely no say in what happens to him.

Needless to say, while I agree it was disgusting, you cannot blame fans for booing the team immensely. This was our 100th year and we essentially made ourselves the laughing stock of the league and ended up being the whipping boy to our previous whipping boy. That was a display of built up frustration that admittedly became out of hand. The fans had every right to boo the team off the ice, they did little to deserve much else; again it just went too far.

If I absolutely had to pick one..........Vincent Lecavalier but I wouldn't want either player. My preference is for players who show up for the regular season and playoffs. And unfortunately for this team, they need players with thicker skin to face the media marathon. Lecavalier's contract is just too long IMHO.

I'd rather go for a Nathan Horton type. Can't we compromise.......it rhymes with Thornton kinda and he plays for the Panthers, the same state Vinny is in right now. The Nathan Horton type is fast, a sniper, young and doesn't mind the rough stuff, at least from what I've seen.

I realize that, but once that contract was up they'd never stay and be on the first bus out of town.

That was because of the fans, not the players. And you're right, the fans made us the laughing stock of the league. Classless.

Sure. It had nothing to do with:

  • Letting Streit walk, thereby crippling our PP until we traded picks to acquire a 40-year-old d-man who subsequently suffered an injury
  • Keeping Carbonneau and his incompetent band of assistants behind the bench so they could scramble every line and keep the team playing the worst system we've had in years
  • Inconsistent goaltending from both Price and Halak
  • Horrid team defense
  • Regression from almost all our young players (Higgins, Plekanec, the Kostitsyns, O'Byrne, Komisarek, Price, Gorges) at the same time
  • Suffering a freakish number of injuries which prevented us from finishing higher in the standings, thereby avoiding an ignominious sweep at the hands of the Bruins
  • Sending Kovalev home for two days
  • The media-generated mob nontroversy with Hamrlik and the Kostitsyns
  • The media-generated nontroversy over some of the young players partying

None of those things. It's all the fans' fault.

FTR, I think that helped.

I still hate the way it was handled, with no respect shown to Kovalev by dragging it all through the mud in public. A simple benching would have sufficed without all the public hoopla.

who do u think created this hoopla

u make it seem like the habs organization did that

it seems to me the media did....

so ur disgust for the team should be directed at the media

I prefer Thornton over Lecavalier. Vinny wouldn't have won a thing without Richards playing out of his mind that year. Richards was the Conn Smythe winer that year. The new contract would put the Habs into the same deep hole that Tampa is peering out of. The team doesn't need to pay that sort of money for the next 11 years to anybody. It's crazy. I'd like to see Gainey make a play for the twins personally. That way you get 2 80-90 point players for a price you can swallow.

There is no way I'd touch either of these guys. Vinny is good but he's not worth hanging a financial millstone around the team's neck for the next ten years. That contract alone displays how complete Lawton's stupidity is.

As for Thornton, well, they don't give out Stanley cups for the regular season. As for playoff performance, it would be kinda like a bad relationship... you take them in thinking "this time will be different" but it just ends with the same ole crap!!

Most people believe Vinny wasn't one of the top 3 contributors to that playoff run (Richards, St Louis, Bulin).

Let's see... One overpaid "Superstar" coming off of shoulder surgery last season, and going through wrist surgery now, (or) one overpiad "Superstar" who cannot seem to get up for a post-season game and take his team to the next level?

u really seem to see things differently then many others dont u...

...Viny is a tremendous players and racks up pts almost every night and doing great even while he's playing with one of the worst teams. What u talkin about? u think Viny is gonna take his team by all himself to the post-season? he's gotta need some help somehow from his teammates to do so, thats y it's called a team.

Imagine if he's playing for us....

I would choose Viny, all the way, no doubt and he deserves his money, not like any other foreign players that almost get paid like him and dont have a heart and not even close to his level!
