patinwoody
I was just in Montreal for a visit. I had a chance to check out the Centennial display. Can some tell me why the HABS chose these 4 statues of Howie Morenz, Rocket Richard, Jean Beliveau & Flower Power Lafleur. The HABS have so many great players, how did they choose these for men. Was there a vote? Will they be adding any more statues in the near future? Thanks. p.s. Is it me, or are some of those brick engravings starting to fade out? propylees
I do not have the official answer. However, I believe that those 4 are probably the most recognized as the 4 best players that played for the Canadiens so far. They are also from 4 different generations of players. habsfan512
If they add any it would /should be Patrick Roy. Each of those gentlemen would have been the face of the team for their generation.

Is all forgiven, even after retring his sweater, do we now mount a statue of "St. Patrick?" The HABS have had so many great players, I find it hard to pinpoint one 'poster boy." How many years difine a generation?

I'm not sure exactly how you mean this, but I had heard that the day after the incident, Roy was begging not to be traded, but management wouldn't have it, and they traded him away. Sure, it wasn't the best way to go, but I think you might have a different picture of how it went than how it actually went down. It wasn't that he left, it was that they forced him to go.
