Message Board Death Threat Against Ovechkin

Recommended Posts

The boy said "I'm killing Ovechkin. I'll go to jail. I don't care anymore."

Rofl what a joke

It's dumb to say it, you can't take it as a joke, it's someone's life we're talking about. Even if there's a 99.999% chance it's a joke, what if the kid goes and kills him 2 days after posting that and we find out he did post it and it was ignored, we'd all be freaking out.

When someone threatens someone's life you have to take it seriously.

Agreed, when did they start taking death threats so seriously?

Ya, why would anyone even take any time to look into it? I mean all he did was say he was willing to sacrifice his freedom to ensure that AO would stop breathing. Jeez, some people are so serious...

Hope some can detect the sarcasm in this post.

Are you serious? they took a msg on a fan site that wasn't directed at Ovi but could have just been said out of anger over the dirty hit on Gonchar. This is pathetic this is a case of cops having to much time on their hands and not spending it wisely.

Well for starters, the comment was before the game where Ovechkin hit Gonchar. Second, this wasn't something that the police just dug up themselves; they were informed by the Capitals organization -- naturally, if informed of such a threat they need to at least look into it lest they be held liable for doing nothing.

Lock the kid in the slammer for a week. Teach him a lesson. And no violent video games while he's there for his week.

Twisted up world today where (a) people feel they just need to post / publish violent intentions like this; and (b ) big chunks of the audience think it's just fine.

Sounds like nothing was meant by what the guy said....I hope not any ways...

I'm also sure he was just a pens fan venting off on his forum, never expected this outcome for sure, imagine his shock when he got the knock on his door.

Nowadays, you just can't be to careful, there are quite a few loonies out there.

Better safe than sorry later.

Any threat should be deemed serious, bottom line.

Oh my. I never thought something as simple as this could be taken so seriously. I guess we'll have to watch what we say from now on.

I'm pretty sure that this would be contrary to our Terms of Use/Code of Conduct.

How are we to know how serious a person is when they post a threat against somebody, or how old that person is? Unfortunately in today's society all threats have to be taken very seriously.

I'll agree that we can't blow off all death threats but their are not enough police in the world to protect against every death threat mentioned. There are probably hundreds mentioned in every school in our neighborhood everyday. It is just facts that words are easy to use but rarely are they followed by action. So yes we must remain diligent but some threats can quite easily be written off as insincere ramblings while others must be genuinely looked into (Kid in BC who had arserel of knives and guns).

In today's society,we have learned the hard way.

WE MUST take all threats seriously and react accordingly,no matter what form their in.

My opinion.

But I am certain threats are not investigated by chonological order in which they are received. They are no doubt investigated based upon perceived threat which makes more sense to me.
