Dintrox12
Sounds like the CBC lobbied the NHL for a doubleheader on New Years Day with the second city being in Canada. Calgary would host in the Stamps homefield McMahon Stadium. A decision will be hopefully be made next week. Calgary considered to host winter classic

tmash
I think a double header makes a ton of sense: just don't make it any more than that. That way you can have one game in the US: which face it, is what the NHL really cares about as a way to grow the game. And you have a second game to make sure the most hardcore part of your fanbase and the place where "outdoor hockey" means the most isn't upset. Hopefully they do it this way every year. zenderjetta
Wow, another good idea by the NHL. This has to be a sign the end is near.
chrisjamessauve
How much do you wanna bet NBC will have absolutely NO coverage of this? Not that I care.

SteenIsThaFuture
How much do you wanna bet NBC will have absolutely NO coverage of this? Not that I care. It was pretty sad when I read that out of the 7.5 mil average viewers that watched the game 7, nearly none watched the game in Detroit. The entire Michigan, New York and others all were watching on CBC. NBC has been a terrible holder for the NHL rights, they treat the league like garbage, I bet Versus will be all over it though. Well the entire endeavor is a means to grow to game and make money so I seriously doubt that a second game in canda featuring canadian teams would make financial sense. The NHL knows that it really doesn't matter who is playing most Canadian hockey fans are going to be watching the outdoor game on Jan. 1st because most of hold outdoor hockey in a special place in our hearts. But if a game is featured in Canada not only will it get little television coverage in the states but if the two teams were canadian, which is very likely, there will not be a great deal of interest from the casual fans, whom are the target of the campaign, in the united states. Personally I doubt this will happen because it doesn't fit their business model of trying deperately to grow the game in the US.
