The Habs weren't done yet, as they made a trade with the Stanley Cup champion Penguins to get the 211th and final pick of the day. Renown for his obscure hidden gems, Timmins picked Petteri Simila, a goalie from Finland who guarded the crease for Karpat Jr. last season.

Oh boy, he's in the OHL too. Games between Niagara and Peterborough are gonna be interesting with Missiaen 6'8 and Simila 6'6 between the pipes. Imagine a showdown between both of them at center ice. :)

When you're that tall RP, you don't have to worry about side-to-side speed.

Just standing up, you're already side-to-side.

Seriously though, I watched The Missiaenary Man a few times last year, and he looks very quick for a big guy. Limited five hole too, which is often a tall goalie's achilles heel.

As far as Pete's concerned, I don't know much about him, except that Montreal made a last second trade to acquire him late in the June draft, and that Timmins (my idol) was ecstatic to have snagged him so late.

Considering Halak was a ninth round steal by Clever Trevor, let's hope this one has Simila results.

PS: If he's so big, why is his picture so small?

Didnt Timmons want him to develop with the coaches overseas, i remember him mentioning about it, something along the lines thats he was the backup to a different goalie who has been doing very well, and that he had a great coach where he was..

O well.. Seems like he is in NA now

On July 29th Petteri Simila signed an OHL contract with the Niagara Ice Dogs, so it looks like he's coming over for a whirl.

Welcome to the small rink Pete.

Best of luck kid!

Small rink is right!!! I am an Ice Dogs season ticket holder and it looks like Petteri will get half the starts this season. By the way, we have the smallest rink in the OHL and quite possibly the smallest in all of junior hockey.

Petteri is playing alright in St.Catharines. Mark Visentin is the number 1 goalie and he is getting a majority of the starts. That being said, Petteri is playing well when given the chance. Looks a little week right now and is a little slow post-to-post.

Not with a 4.14 GAA and .891 save percentage.

Some recent news is that he was included in a big player trade yesterday that involved Alex Pietrangelo and Chris DeSousa being traded (with Petteri Simila) to the Barrie Colts in exchange for Ryan Strome, Simon Gronvaldt, two 2nd round picks, a 3rd round pick and a 9th round pick.

Here is the link: http://www.niagaraicedogs.net/article/iced...plete-big-trade

He is now a Barrie Colt.

A Twitter by habsworld_net yesterday: After being acquired by Barrie (OHL), Habs G prospect Petteri Simila likely out of a job; will either be let go or sit as a 3rd/4th stringer.

Apparently he has signed with KalPa Kuopio of the Finnish league for year and a half, according to the team's site. They already seemed to have a solid goaltending duo, so no idea how much he'll play there.

Couldn't the Habs find a team for him to play for over here even if it was in the ECHL and it was on loan to some other team other than their own. A place where he could see a fair amount of game action.

The ECHL is a semi-pro hockey league. The weekly salary cap for 2009-10 is $11,800; the weekly minimum salary cap being $8,300. This season ECHL Teams are required to pay rookie players a minimum salary of $360 per week. Most likely peanuts compared to what he got with KalPa Kuopio.
