amp73
............., keep in mind theres a chance Komi declines and Koivu gets his money. There's also a chance # 8 declines and # 11 gets an offer to play with his brother and Montreal gets nothing , which if I was # 11 is what I would probably do . SJ - Patrick Marleau, Joe Thornton PHI - Jeff Carter TB - Vincent Lecavalier PIT - Jordan Staal DAL - Brad Richards CGY - Olli Jokinen Come on!You're kidding, right? You know,as everyone does, that there is only one team he is focussed on.He is deep in the throes of a passionate love affair with Vince Carter (oops,I mean LeCavalier)and can't even see any other opportunities that might lie in his path!I remember how,as a child I used to ask why they had those things on the milk-wagon horse's head that left him unable to see anything beside him.The milkman told me it was to make sure the horse didn't get distracted from his normal route.I didn't necessarily understand that at the time, but I do now!GAINEY!TAKE THE DAMN BLINDERS OFF!YOU'RE MISSING THE BOAT AGAIN!.........WAKE THE HELL UP! amp73
So if Understand correctly, BG waited until 1 to 2 days before these guys become UFA's to offer them a contract . If you wanted them that bad, you should have offerred them something during the year . At least show them that you are interested, not leave it until the last minute
Max-Hab-Fan
At this rate we are a good bet for next years first pick. Hey, it helped the Pens win a Cup. I say bring up the farm for a couple of years and then start a new 3 year plan with some real talent.

catt-_mtlc
saku should already have his offer, plain and simple were gonna be in the lottery for many years to come Damn straight So lets see he offers the floater and the injury prone defenceman a contract before the Koivu the captain, heart and soul of the team and Tanguay one of the better Habs last year. I'm hoping that he lands someone big on Wednesday because if not you could be right on the money.
gracie12
So if Understand correctly, BG waited until 1 to 2 days before these guys become UFA's to offer them a contract . If you wanted them that bad, you should have offerred them something during the year . At least show them that you are interested, not leave it until the last minute I dont know if i agree with this though Regis. I mean its not like Gainey is pulling numbers out of nowhere. He likely has a good idea what these guys are worth on the open market & what they would be willing to sign for. Providing this is true & they are in the same ball park then there's no real need to offer a contract before now. The fact remains that if he had been able to land that big centre this weekend & could have gone to say, kovalev & say "kovy, we want you back & this is who will be centering you next year" - it would have gone a long way to getting the deal done. Im sad to note that the chances of koivu coming back are slim. I know there's still a possibility & at this point my guess is that he is not coming back because of a cost issue only. Im sure Gainey would love to have Sax as his 3rd line centre with "big centre a" as #1 and pleks as #2, but realistically, Koivu will not play for 3rd line money. Similarly, Gainey would probably be ok with signing Tanguay at say, $3.5 - 4m but since he can probably fetch $5-6m on the open market, so, better to let him try elsewhere & if he cant get the money he wants then gainey can say, well, this offer is here if you're interested. Im sad we didnt get to see more out of the Tanguay experiment...it seemed like we never really got a chance to give him a chance. As for the "five teams" - if thats indeed true, Im excited. I means there really is a chance of gainey landing a big name centre. I hope that at least one of the teams is someone like St Louis or Phoenix & they are considering moving us one of their elite young centres. Yes theres more of a risk with a guy like that but a) we can probably get him for less than an established star and B ) he could be with this team for a decade or more, whereas someone like Thornton for example has only a couple of more years left in his prime. Time will tell but Im still hopeful that gainey has a plan & we are going to be excited to see this team come october.

Telly_39_s_1
I don't know whether Komi should stalk or avoid Lucic this year. It's definately something I'll be interested in seeing if we do re-sign him. As for Tanguay... what? I can't see why Bob isn't offering him a new contract. He knows something we don't, clearly. Maybe BG still working on grabbing a center and a winger to replace both koivu and tanguay? who knows lol lots of question marks and like other off seasons the habs are left in the dark until something happens who knows. I hope you're right because if he doesn't get a center and a winger the team could be in big trouble. If by not signing Koivu and Tanguay means anything it could mean that he's going after the Sedins. I'll reserve judgment till July 1st I think we're all in the dark really no one really knows what Bob has up his sleeve.
QbGamer
Break down the Contracts. How much is Higgins Pleks Lats Dags Even if you say Higins 3.5 Pleks 3.5 Lats 2.5 Dags 1 Thats only about 10 million.. Chips and Stewart... But both of there contracts will only be 2 way deals, wont really effect the cap.. Really going to make? Then we have 4 D signed for next season, a offer given to Komi, Which would be 5, we would still need 1-2 more D.. Seems like we have soo much $ to blow.. BG must really be going after some big names.. Issue is he really needs to make it happen before July 1, which is tomorrow... As if plan 1) Vinny doesntwork 2) Other big center doesnt work 3) Its after July 1st.. Then we will have no one on our team.. and we would have lost all of our players for nothing.. No picks no players.. Atleast burke traded to get a ton of picks + prospects....

leafs_rock_go_mccabe
Kovalev is one of our best players, why would we let go of him? I am well aware that he WAS one of our best players, but I am also well aware that Kovalev isn't going to put this team into contention. Why tender him an offer a this time? Leave it until after actually putting pieces into place that will make a difference in our competitiveness going forward in 2009-2010. Kovalev, for me, should be a 1 year signing... Potential trade bait at the deadline. Unless we are actually going to get some top line talent and a produce an effective club. Then we can sign him AFTERWARD as some added secondary offense. Fact remains that with guys like Kostitsyn, Kostitsyn, Latendresse, Higgins, Dags, Paches etc - we have some pretty decent top six wingers. Add Kovalev into the mix & you've got good scoring on your flanks. Its down the middle we're weak. Providing we can keep plekanec, by adding one impact centre, we're in good. I would love to see Koivu back but the reality is, we may not have enough money. I think we will see in pittsburg very quickly as the contracts of Malkin and Staal kick in, how bad your team will be if you pay too much $$ for one position. Koivu should probably get $5m on the open market which, frankly, is just too much to be our 3rd line centre. Tanguay im a little surprised about - especially after what it cost to acquire him - but I suppose perhaps Bob knows something we dont.
