i cant belive this is happening! this is even worse than briere rumour! i was joking about redden, but gainey out top even the biggest nightmere! he took 5'11 center who scored "impressive" 58 points last year AND cost 7.3 million cap hit (which is even more than vinny does) until summer of 2015.!

great job gainey! LOL!

You're right.

But we traded Higgins for him, what do you expect? He's not a first liner either.

We would probably have to put a lot more into the mix to get a solid first or second liner.

I'm not sure, but Higgens is a lot to pay for someone making that much money against the cap. I just hope Gomez can perform as a solid first line center with the right wingers because making that much money it will be expected of him.

Yippie, another small (5'11'') centerman. Thought Gainet was trying to get bigger down the middle?? Not that I don't like Gomez, but I'd prefer him be our 2nd line center, so we'd still need to find that 1st line center we've been trying (for years) to get. With that being said, I have no problems with Higgins leaving town. Should be interesting. Let's see who else we get.

I liked Gomez when he was with the Devils

not so sure about his last 2 years with the Rangers, who was he playing with last year?

I guess Drury had better wingers

I'm still shock that Gainey went to get a guy with such a big contract, for his kind of production, I guess he couldnt get Lecavalier out of Tampa

I hope some of those UFA are friend with Gomez and he can bring them here

either way, I think someone in New York will be laughing tonight.

well we can say good bye to any possibility of siging the sedins

i would have perfered briere then gomez

$33.0million cap space. - gomez's 7.3 million contract = 25.7 millino. Sedin twins want 6-7million each. = around 11.7 million left to sign other players.

Well Gomez is a good player and he's good at what he does, he's quick and he's a playmaker. Too bad we could've just as easily filled that need by keeping Koivu at a much lower price while still retaining Higgins. To me it looks like Koivu is out for sure now and ultimately we haven't fulfilled our need of a big talented centreman.

Here is what I think. Koivu is gone, gomez replaces him. The Sedin twins come in to montreal. Henrik Sedin 6'2" centerman and Daniel Sedin 6'1 winger. I don't see anything bad about this so far. Gomez will do great next year! I for one am excited to see him in Montreal.

If this deal is true, we need to fire Gainey NOW!!!!

No Koivu, add Gomez....this team is going down down down. That is the most ludicrous trade Gainey could make. Trade youth and future for an old washed up has been...great job. At 8 million! The only guy I'd pay that much to, aside from Crosby and Ovechkin, is Vinny. This leaves us with no money to get a real centreman. We don't need another 16 goal scorer. We have Lang. Keep him. I can't believe this deal.

The drive for 25 just took a nosedive....
