Kubby31
well we can say good bye to any possibility of siging the sedins This makes me sick, unbelieveable Gainey...
464VermontHabs
Here is what I think. Koivu is gone, gomez replaces him. The Sedin twins come in to montreal. Henrik Sedin 6'2" centerman and Daniel Sedin 6'1 winger. I don't see anything bad about this so far. Gomez will do great next year! I for one am excited to see him in Montreal. i sure as hell hope that you are right...maybe i am too pessimistic to see it
A-K-46
$33.0million cap space. - gomez's 7.3 million contract = 25.7 millino. Sedin twins want 6-7million each. = around 11.7 million left to sign other players. ye but he will probably be the #1 center a 5'10 shrimp meaning the sedins would be #2 vice versa gomez is a good 3rd line ok 2nd liber and just plain bad 1sty liner so we traded a 3 mill guy for a 7.3 mill 5'10 shrimp of a player
sssfffs
Well Gomez is a good player and he's good at what he does, he's quick and he's a playmaker. Too bad we could've just as easily filled that need by keeping Koivu at a much lower price while still retaining Higgins. To me it looks like Koivu is out for sure now and ultimately we haven't fulfilled our need of a big talented centreman. In my opinion Gomez is a much better center than koivu so I'm hyped! tomzilla
The Montreal Canadiens have acquired centre Scott Gomez, winger Tom Pyatt and defenceman Mike Busto from the New York Rangers in exchange for winger Chris Higgins and defensemen Ryan McDonagh and Pavel Valentenko from the Montreal Canadiens. ironhorse
this board is full of pessimists. seriously nothing will be good enough for some of you. if bob re-signs tanguay and kovy that will be a very good top line. who the heck was he playing with in new york? seriously that whole team was a joke. lighten up people. i don't think bob is finished yet. Who was he paired up with in N.Y.Rangers? Naslund OOHH big whooop. When he was playing with Jagr he put up 70 points. This year the Rangers were just plain lazy. You guys will keep judging him until you see him play. Same thing happened with Robert Lang(I am one of those who judged him and he played great even since I learned to keep my mouth shut until I see him play) and Mathieu Schneider (I never judged him , i was optimisitic and he was superb). I actually like this deal, as long as he's not our 1st line center. Bring in the Sedins, and I'll be glowing (not that they are the be all to end all, but they (all) would certainly improve this team, IMO).

musket-ball
You're right. But we traded Higgins for him, what do you expect? He's not a first liner either. We would probably have to put a lot more into the mix to get a solid first or second liner. Agree with everything you said, but 8 mill? Somebody is off his rocker. movetheleafs
People are acting like the sky is falling. I don't like his salary but Gomez is far and away a much better player than Higgins. I must be one of the few people who never though Higgins was all that. You have to give something to get something.... Montreal really doesn't have too many assets right now, so expect these kinds of ttrades. I don't think Gomez is the 1st line center Gainey's looking for though. I believe he's going to get another center to play on the top line. Komi is easily replaceable so I have no problems with him leaving...another overrated player. mortwinkler
I still like this deal. It kind of cleans house and brings us a bigger named player. Who knows though, maybe Gomez won't actually play a game with us and this could be part of a bigger plan... Regardless, I like it.
