musicalhab
TSN just reported that the habs have signed buffalo sabres defenceman Jaroslav Spacek...I can't find this on the web anywhere yet..but if this is true, what the heck is Bob thinking? I know I've been Mr. Positive so far with the Gomez stuff...but this is out of hand...a 35 year old 5'11 D guy..just what we need!

jacob_mtl
if it is true he is old but he can still mange to be good for a few seasons but he is old so he can bring down the team
fourtrax
Gainey needs to check himself into rehab. He's addicted to signing or acquiring defensemen 35 or older to or on inflated contracts. Did he even try to get Beauchemin? Or maybe even think about offering Komisarek more term?
zugoga
he didnt have bad year 45 points
axnguyen
he didnt have bad year 45 points True. Good for 16th among defencemen in the league. We still need a D-man with a big shot for our first powerplay unit though, as I would think Spacek would run the 2nd unit..
ruuvimeisseli
he didnt have bad year 45 points Dude, he is 35 years old, overpaid, small, dosen't hit, in his 3 seasons with buffalo he averages out 68 games meaning he is not durable or realiable for the playoffs. RadioHab
He has decent size being over 200 lbs, 45 points for a D-man is pretty good and is +25 in career +/-, Under 4 mill$ a season. Not a bad signing as we need the help on D. The Bruins have been doing some great things in recent years and aparently tried to sign this guy as well but we got him so it can`t be that terrible of a move. Not to mention he wore the ''A'' in Buffalo so he must have some leadership qualities which we can definatly use. I don`t know much about him but as far as I can tell this is not horrible by any means. Welcome to the Habs Jaroslav.

Dutch
Yeah, what you said Weep, I am really suprised about this signing, especially for this kind of money. Sure he is a good D man, lets hope he can stay like that for a few more years to come. Welcome to the team Spacek.
Mauro-Biello
It's not a horrible move, but it's definitely not the best either.
Guest olddude
I don't know what to make of the last couple days, add Hal Gill to the mix and stunned is a good word.
GRETZKYANDGRAF
This one I can kinda live with. But Gainey is done...he's officially lost his mind.
thepriceisright
I would have gone after Ohlund and Montador myself, and yes, there not "BIG NAMES " but in saying that , at least BG is addressing the need on the blueline . I do think there is a change in direction by management , either they are dealing with something else in the dressing room , or the landscape of the Eastern Conference , the way Philly changed with Pronger, Burke getting T.O. tougher, Boston with Chara and Lucic , there seems to be no direction, but more panic than anything , why ???? you tell me . DA_Champion
This is a decent signing, however 3 years is a long time and we have a lot of D prospects.
leafs_rock_go_mccabe
This is a decent signing, however 3 years is a long time and we have a lot of D prospects. Well, Hamrlik is gone in two seasons!
flamesgal1
This and Gill ar not that bad...two relatively solid dee for a grand total 5.5.... I think you will see spacek hit double digits with Markov feeding him on the power play. Gill play rather well on the backend for Pittsburg during the playoffs. It gives time to the young players like PK, Obryne, Fisher, Weber etc
Lynch_mtl
I wanted this guy on the habs, but I'm not a big fan of his contract. Oh well, at least it beats the Hal Gill signing. I'm looking forward to what he'll bring next season.
fourtrax
This is a decent signing, however 3 years is a long time and we have a lot of D prospects. Not anymore. No Yemelin, Valentenko, or McDonagh. We've got Weber and Carle immediately in the pipeline and that's about it. Subban will be good but isn't ready for prime time. By the time Subban is a Hab, Hamrlik will be gone.

Subban will be good but isn't ready for prime time. By the time Subban is a Hab, Hamrlik will be gone. That's for sure... I just wonder if Spacek was a good decision. At just under $4 million I would hope that he can contribute the same amount of points that he had contributed for Buffalo last season. I don't really know much about Spacek... Perhaps this is Mark Streit, take 2?
pitbull12
At least we won't have to worry about Spacek scoring on Price anymore...Correct me if I am wrong but I think 2 of his 8 goals last year came against Price. One of which was a bomb from practically the center ice line.

nextgrext_mtl
He's going to be responsible for alot of goals with Price in nets this year. Spacek is a great pick up! He's at a very good price, and he brings us a lot! He was the leading scoring D on Buffalo! 45 points is nothing to snuff at. Hamrlik and Spacek will be a great pairing to sure up our back end. This signing does nothing but helps the habs!!!
