Alex Tanguay Or Alex Kovalev

Recommended Posts

Bring kovy in and the FANS all over the place will go nuts and breath normal...alot of hab fans young and old love him.....he brings that special feeling when he scores or sets up other players to score....you can not take that away from a team!!!

yeah and when kovy plays lazy? and does not produce? and causes problems for the young players namely speaking Akost and Skost? it seems when kovalev plays bad those two play just as bad or worse. I say get koivu back instead you know what your getting a leader and heart and soul of this team back instead of a player that plays whenever he feels like it....

you call him lazy? doesnt produce? causes problems? did he do all these points by what your saying? or his twin brother showed up? yes he did have some probs last year but dont forget what we dont see and hear that goes on behind closed doors....let him play with what we just bought or the players that we had and i bet you he will be a great leader.

Koivu

Kovalev

tanguay

No one has picked any of them up yet

I wonder if this reflects on what their percieved value is by other GM's

Maybe they are not as highly sought after as we would have thought

I was wondering the same thing, I kinda expected Kovy to go quickly. Actually all 3 of em, specially how they ended the season last year. Ok, they weren't spectacular in the post season, they sure made a good "end of the season" run.

Could be several scenario's to this, I can't see this being simply a coincidence. Most of the sought after UFA's have found homes. Including Havlat, who's a hit away from retirement, Gaborik- who came off another injury plagued season, only played something like 17 games in 08-09.

Tanguay was almost a ppg player when healthy, he's still has many good years of hockey at 30, also brings experience. All these guy's showed they still had it in em to go out and get points with that burst they had at the end of the season. Play em with good line mates and they will perform.

I can see Koivu holding out for either Minny or Montreal, I don't see that being the case for Kovy and/or Tanguay though. Apparently Kovy was close to signing, which is why the false report was leaked. I truly think signing one of these guys (or a healthy Lang), would really round out this team. I'm leaning more towards Koivu and Kovy (for obvious reasons), Tanguay, as good as he was last season he spent too much time on the IR.

There's a lot that goes on that we don't hear about. One story I heard about Kovy and the Kos bros, Kovy washed his hands of them 1/2 way through the season. It was no secret that the Kos Bros looked up to Kovy, but last season when they -allegedly- started hanging around their connected friend too much, Kovy tried to bring em back. Basically, SK told Kovy to mind his own business (obviously he wasn't that polite) and Kovy left. The whole LaPresse story broke about a month later and Sergei was sent down to the AHL. Not long after, Kovy was given 2 days off by BG.

Now, I didn't go into all the details that I heard (it's a lil more complex), I'm taking this story with a grain of salt. Still, the time line works and there was that article published on RDS (from Rue Frontenac) that Kovy later denied.

I'm not saying I'm disagree with you and I'm not saying to take my story/rumor at face value (please don't), I'm just giving you another scenario. A scenario where Kovy looks like a team leader and has taken it upon himself to look after the young Russian players coming up. He sure stepped up as captain when Koivu was hurt 2 years ago, he really was an important part of this team. And it goes much farther than just his goal scoring or passing abilities.

Personally, I wouldn't want to have to choose between Kovy and Koivu. I think both would bring a lot to the table, in their own way of course. I'd be happy if either of them came back and I'd be just as disappointed that the other didn't return. When it comes down to it, we could still use a vet winger and center to round out this team.

well with the RFA we have to sign the only possible way we can fit both is if they both sign for league minimum and we bring BGL and metro down to the minors to take off 2.5m off the books.

Sign kovy, to play with cammaleri and gomez, on the right wing. But only sign him for under 3.75 a mill for one year. I dont think he can be trusted to play a whole hearted 82 game season. Imo he plays one seaons at 31 games for 6 mill. then comes back next seaons and plays 55 games at another 6 mill and thats 12 mill for 85 games. 85= 1 season plus one round of playoffs that should be more than one round all on his own with his abilities. But he would be great with hard working people that can make up for his lack of effort at times. Tanguay played great but has a bad shoulder injury that could take him out again.

Main reason gomez was brought here was to play with gionta...

None of them are coming back...

Koivu will be a threat to Gomez's voice in the lockerroom. BG wants the new players to take over and lead the team. Koivu and Kovalev always seemed to via for leadership of the team to an extent. Gomez had the same problem in New York with Drury. In neither case did the players hate eachother, but there was no clear leader in the lockeroom because there were to many voices. Now Gomez will likely be the clear leader in the dressing room.

As for Kovy causing problems with the Kostitsyn's I think it's the other way around. Kovy had said at some point during the season that the yong players were doing things off the ice they shouldn't be doing and it appears he was right. Price is accussed of being lazy in terms of his conditioning by the goalie coach. The Kostitysn's are hanging out with bad influences. Higgens is partying all the time. It's no wonder the young players struggled so much last year and they had no interest in listening to vets advicde on such matters.

you can say this with all certainty?..Gomez and Drury vied for the leadership? Gomez is a leader? I've just never thought of him being that vocal. Koivu would be a threat to Gomez's voice in the dressing room? How about Gomez takes his gazzion dollars , plays his heart out for the team , becomes a cheerleader for Saku ( who's 2xs the leader and person) and shuts up

I'm pretty sure hes not coming back. Gainey did not even make an offer and he already said the only guy he would have brought back was Kovalev who was to slow to sign after the offer was made. I'm pretty sure that is their reasoning though. Regardless of weather or not Koivu is a better learder it's best to let the new players come in and feel important right off the bat. Again I didn't say the players hate eachother, but there isn't enough room for everyone.
