Steve Penney Gets Stanley Cup Ring Stolen

Recommended Posts

Man I was just reading this article on Steve Penney. Poor guy got his Stanely Cup Ring stolen. THAT SUCKS! Obviously the idiot who stole the ring is not a true sportsman. What a shame.

Where do you keep your Stanley Cup ring?

I actually don’t have it anymore. It was stolen at a goalie camp two years ago. I brought it in to show the kids and then stuck it in the pocket of my pants in the dressing room. Someone decided to rob our dressing room and a few people had money stolen, but it cost me my ring.

Man,that's unfortunate.

Something that is so valuable.

Hope the thief someday has a change of heart,& feels guilty enough to turn it back over to him.

That's pretty unfortunate. The thing I never understand when hearing these things (athletes/musicians etc...getting things stolen), is.....(for the person/people who stole whatever it was) what are ya gonna do with it.....wear it? People will see it, and report ya. Sell it?......Who would buy it, and risk getting caught? Show it off and brag to all your friends? That's silly. Unless they're just gonna stash it away forever and not tell anyone, or just steal it and throw it away, then I just don't see a point.....not that I'm condoning it, either way. Brutal. People are idiots sometimes. <_<

Or,you could be as bold/brave & dumb as the fellow that stole Crosby's jersey( I believe his team canada one if I'm correct ) from the airport, and had the gull to let his child wear it to school. ;)

Jersey is different then a ring,, Jerseys are a dime a dozen...

Who cares if a loony fan takes it..

A ring on the other hand :) is 1 of a kind

They do it so they can have something only a small % of the populations owns. Yet once they have it, they realize they can't show it off cos it's stolen. Yes, people are idiots sometimes.

People do these stunts all the time, some guy in Paris stole Jim Morrison's bust from his grave. I'm sure there's a collector somewhere who'd pay top dollar for Jim Morrison's bust, but Steve Penney's ring?!?

I'm surprised there are still people who remember him. He was my favorite goalie back then, he only lasted a few season before Roy stole the #1 spot from him. I saw Penney playing in the conference finals against the mighty Islanders, in the old Forum. Steve Penney and the Habs shut em out, 3-0 Habs. Islanders ended up winning the series, but the Oilers helped the habs keep their record of 5 consecutive cup by beating the Islander, taking home their 1st Stanley Cup. I really miss the old Forum. :(

Someone should go down to the Forum and let the ghosts know that they've moved. Maybe we'll start winning again.

Btw, I really feel Bad for Steve... That's something he can never get back.

I miss it as well. The Bell center is nice and all but the Forum was such a special place. It had an intangible quality of greatness that could never be duplicated.

I feel so bad for Penny, is there any way he can get a replacement made. Maybe the team will be nice enough to give him another one?

I was really upset at the city of Montreal for turning the Forum into a mall. What better museum could you ask for?

Be a great place to show off our great history and better yet, in the place it happened. I understand, it would be expensive, but they could've transformed part of the forum into a museum.

And no, a few old seats and the odd statue doesn't do it justice.

Maybe it's cos I'm older, but I don't get the same feeling in the Bell Center (has it officially become the Molson center again?) as I did in the forum. As a kid, before going in, I'd stand outside and lstare at the 2 hockey sticks that lit up the entrance. The feeling you got when you entered the forum was like nothing else. Even visiting teams would say there was something very special about the old forum.

It's a disgrace to call it the Pepsi Forum. Should've remained, The Forum.

Sergio Momesso also lost his Cup Ring to theft a couple of years ago. His house was broken into if I'm not mistaken.

Those '86 rings seem to be in high demand for some reason.

I can't imagine losing something as priceless as a Stanley Cup Ring. That's bad day if there ever was one.
