tmash
I don't get why people would consider Montreal for this list. I think we were considered on the rise a couple years ago, but last season put that to bed. Our youngsters on the team or in Hamilton didn't do anything last year to give much hope for the future. So now we essentially built a team through free agency that on paper is more or less the same skill level: defense is a bit deeper but offense lost a couple players who weren't really replaced. Hopefully with good coaching, less injuries, and better development of our young players, next season will be better; but the key word is 'hopefully' there haven't been any 'signs' we are on the rise. Montreal should be on a list of "Top 10 teams spinning in circles".
SteenIsThaFuture
I think Toronto can surprise, 10th in the league in goals last year, if they can get some average D and have healthy Toskala they may actually surprise. Not like contend, but be in the race for the 8th.

As much as would love to disagree with ya ,as I'm probably the biggest leaf hater out there ,I think your right on,I also have a bad feeling the leafs may suprise many. Maybe this will be their season to make the playoffs. Agreed, but how do you know who's "at the top"of a circle?
RedLightRonan
Why are the Islanders on this list, exactly? Okposo, Bailey, and Tavares are the only players of the future they have right now, and they're being rushed into the NHL because they've got nothing else. No goalie prospects, no forward depth whatsoever, no defense. Heck, Snow moved up at the draft to take an undersized defenseman that no one wanted! Leafs will be on the rise because they have nowhere else to go. Much better defense, offense still useless (and for those who will point out that they scored a bunch of goals last year - that's because they pretty much gave up on backchecking and defense). I can't see Vancouver being any better than last year. Sedins have plateaued, defense is worse, and their backup is Andrew freakin' Raycroft. God help them if Luongo gets injured (like, say, during that ridiculously long road trip). I'd put Atlanta in over the Isles (the Thrashers are improving at all three positions), and Nashville over Vancouver.

NHL-Expert
First, let me say you come up with some great thread topics. Many of yours are very interesting so just a thanks to you...... I agree with most of the list but I question the Islanders, leafs ( still questionable in goal) and Lightning..... .......no Habs? about the lightning : Well they have two future superstar in Stamkos and Hedman, enough to be in the top ten in my book Islanders : They have Tavares, Okposo and Bailey, they'll likely get another top 5 pick next year, the Islanders will be a force in a couple of years. Leafs : They have a realy solid Defense, a good goalie tandem, and unlike the popular belief they have a deep prospect pool ( Luke Schenn, Nazem Kadri, Nikolai Kulemin,Jiri Tlusty, John Mitchell, Jonas Gustavsson, Tyler Bozak, Justin Pogge, Jimmy Hayes, Victor Stalberg, Christian Hanson, Chris Didomenico, Dale Mitchell, Kenny Ryan, Jessa Blacker...) they just lack first line player.
