Go read the DAY 3 training camp article.

I know it is only training camp, but I am smiling after reading that our HALAK has been the top goalie in training camp. :P:P:P

go underdog!!! ;)

Yeah I am too. But will he earn playtime based on performance or will the thoroughbred just get handed the starting job again this season?

Yah Brock Trotter got the scoring title but you wont see him starting in the big league because of it. Same with Halak back to back shutouts in training camp is good but not enough to steal the starting job.

Yeah, it's pretty irrelevant but it's still nice to hear some positive news instead of hearing he's getting shelled by our AHL guy's lol. It's just the time of year when any news is exciting.

 don't burst my bubble! Not easy being a Halak fan in this city that only sees #31 so let us rejoice when we need to. ;)

I'm hoping the new regime means a new attitude - Price will get first shot no matter what -If Price is on - we are all happy!

but if things don't go well I'm hoping they will give Halak a legitimate shot (if he is playing well) - what is most important is the team winning not individual's development!

You sound like the world's biggest fan Mike. Good for you. You should check out Meigrey, they have an Halak AHL All Star jersey for sale and it's super cheap. Not as nice as my Price, but that's understandable. :P The Canadiens shop also have a few Halak gamers left, all under 1000 bucks which is a great buy for a future superstar.

I know i sorry im still getting over all the crazy Halak fans who wanted prices head last season.

The way I see it is Halak is the best backup in the NHL. We have the best 1 2 combination with Price and Halak. I don't care who plays as long as they keep the puck out of the net. I'm a little biased towards Price only because of his style and the fact hes canadian and I have this thing with canadian star goalies like Luongo Brodour Roy Ward Fleury and many many others. So to see the habs have a chance to have the next great Canadian goalie makes me very very very happy.

But I also would like to keep Halak as our backup but would still understand if he left when his contract is up to be a starter somewheres else.

i imagine he will leave after his contract is up, and i would want him to move on because he has too much talent to be playing behind someone else

I guess we'll see soon enough whether Martin is man enough to put his job on the line and stand up to Bob when he demands that he plays Price regardless of whether he can do the job adequately as in last year's showing. My impression of Martin is that he would tend to play the better goalie of the moment rather than baby along a pet project to appease the boss!Time will tell! <_<

Honestly, I seriously doubt all of these claims about Gainey just wanting Price to play because he's a first round pick, and because he doesn't want to make himself look bad, and because he wants to keep his job, and etc etc etc. Gainey, Martin, Carbonneau, Price, Halak and probably the guy selling jerseys at the Bell Centre boutique have one thing in common: they all want the team to win.

From my understanding, after listening to various press conferences and the like, Gainey feels that Price has a lot of potential that he hasn't been able to reach yet. I'd venture a guess that that's probably a pretty common sentiment around the league, so I don't know why everybody holds it over Gainey like he's got some sort of obsession with his 'thoroughbred'.

As for the coaching, Martin will play the goalie that he feels gives the team the best chance of success. If Price is playing well, it'll be Price. If Halak is playing well, it will be Halak. But you know what? Halak probably won't get as much opportunity as Price because this team has more riding on Price right now (if nothing else by virtue of the fact that Halak will be an UFA). Ideally, Price will play great and Halak will play great when called in to back him up. If not though, it's tough to complain about things being 'unfair to Halak' if Price gets more opportunities... in all honestly, that's just called being a back-up goalie in the NHL. It was nothing to do with an unnatural obsession of our GM or coach.

Edit: I might add, though, that I think Jaro's been a great part of this team and that I really like him. I'm really looking forward to the olympics and seeing him get a chance to shine with Slovakia.

Not a bad debut, made some very nice saves. Was a little shakier than usual and I think he had 3 posts hit behind him but it's just a debut, shake off a little rust. Unlike in years past he's not really playing for a spot on the roster so he can just do what he has to do to be ready for October 1.
