ChiLla
I'm going to go ahead and take the positive outlook... since i don't think I could handle the negative one right now I wish I could do that too but all the (fairly moderate) expectations I had for this season went out of the window with Markie's injury. I don't believe Gainey is going to trade for a Dman now and IMO it wouldn't make much sense to give up even more assets trying to fill a hole that can't be filled anyway. A waiver pickup maybe? Someone brought up Chris Schubert earlier but is a Dman that's apparently not good enough to crack Ottawa's lineup really going to help us? It might be the best option to bring up Weber and throw him in there in a limited role. That way, the kid gets some NHL experience and we can see what he's made of and hope the entire D can step it up at the same time. We'll see I guess... Ace_mtl
Man even for this board I'm shocked with the negativity and sheer panic. It's game 1 for crying out loud!!! Ya, one of our best players is out for a few months...SO WHAT! The show must go on. I've never seen such silly panic. Have a little faith in your team, pour a cool one and enjoy the next game

Our defense is like below-average without him.

Our defense is like below-average without him. we have also had some below average defencemen in that time too Todd Simpson anyone new players, new coach and a new season. I think what Ace is getting at is some people are ready to throw in the towel before we have even played a full week of the new season; and that's just sad. Our defense is like below-average without him. Ace has a certain point, though. Our team has to find a way to win without Markov. Sure he's arguably our best player, but if we lose just one player and that kills our chances to even make the playoffs (like Ray Ferraro thinks) than our team wasn't going very far even with him in the line up. That said, I like Markov and hope he fully recovers.
leafsbaby08
Certainly a tough loss but not time to throw in the white towel just yet. This is a brand new team that has yet to find an identity therefore they're not yet dependant on any one player yet. The team will continue to progress and figure each other out by winning games as well as a fair amount of trial and error probably til mid season comes around. I think this team has what it takes to get rounded into form before they're on the outside looking in and tear through the 2nd half of the season. By the time Markov gets back he'll fit like a cog into a well oiled machine which will allow him to do what he does best.
ruuvimeisseli
Get well soon Markov. This is a great chance to see if our team has heart, our best player is injured. If others take a step up for the hole without Markov, then were in good shape to be play off contenders. If not atleast we get a good draft pick cause from the start of the season we sucked (making us a top 4 pick )

jcammalleri
Losing him is a blow but not as bad as it would be if we had last year's defence without Spacek and Mara. Anyone thought about inviting Breezer to fill in? or is that totally out of question since he just retired?

Definately, but losing your #1 defenseman is always a big blow. We'll see how the guys respond.

Yeah I'm not trying to minimize this at all, it's devastating but I do think we're in a better position to deal with it this season.
avsgirl621
Mackenzie is on TSN saying the Beezer's services are being offered. McGuire saying BG should be trying to trade Halak/S.Kost for Cam Barker and another player. I don't feel good about either of those scenarious really. Curious to see what Bob will do, if anything. I would just as soon give Webber a shot.

Our defense is like below-average without him. Did anyone happen to tell you we've changed 50% of our players since last season and our coach making last seasons stats irrelevant? I'm not saying things we'll definitely be different this year but at least give YOUR team a chance to prove their mettle before you write them off because of one unfortunate injury. avsgirl621
Done deal. I take it and run. The last thing I thought we would be talking about after game 1 would be potential trades, especially with all the offseason moves. With SK on the block and Markov out, something might happen though. I wouldn't be too keen on Jaro going anywhere.

If you could land Cam Barker for Halak and Sk right now that would be a doen deal for me....Cam Could fit right in to Markov role and we would not miss a beat on the back end...He is 6.3 and can skatem has good vision and is only 23....he is like Boumeister
