If he repeats his abysmal performance we're going to be very hard pressed to make the playoffs once again.

If he posts 50 or more points and is able to keep his linemates productive, we'll be fine. One thing that should help him out is that he is unquestionably not our first-line center this season. Last year, there were heavy expectations that he'd be the number 1 guy following his breakout 07-08 season. At this point, it should be clear that Pleks, when on his game and confident, is a good second-line center, nothing more. No top unit PP time, no top D matchups. He shouldn't have to win games for us. All he's got to do is be a consistent secondary scorer, which shouldn't be a problem given the quality of his potential linemates (Gionta, Lats, SK, or whoever else winds up on the second line). Also, I think Pleks plays the kind of responsible two-way game that Martin likes.

I'm sure he'll play well enough to go somewhere else for big money next summer. :P

lol it would be nice but if he scores 20 and doubles his assist total from last year I'll be ecstatic.

It'd be even nicer if he nets 30! :D Which is definitely possible, but none-the-less unlikely, in my opinion. I'm just hoping he rebounds and gives us good production and defence for one more season. I'm assuming he is going to leave afterward.

Yeah, agreed. Let's not crush Pleks with unrealistic expectations. He's a good second-line center, nothing more. If we get 55 points out of him, I'll be happy. Anything more than 55 and I'll be delighted.

geeze-- again i don't think you quite understand the nature of kovy and it forces you to underestimate pleks. the sax should almost be banned- made illegal- for one has to be so good at it for it to make any sense musically, and kovy kept it and his playing of it as a treasure! wow you're easy weeps. lol flunk somebody once. LOL just kidding.

I only understand about a quarter of this, but as always, entertaining, my friend! :):P

Are you saying you think Plekanec is more than a second-line player? Fair enough, and I guess we'll see this season, but outside of that one great 07-08 season, Pleks has never even broken the 50-point plateau. Is he the guy I want to turn to in critical situations? Not really.

give him a chance--his surge last year in trying times shows me at any rate he has more willingness than most his age.

I agree, he needs to grab his chances and make the best to prove his worth. The real question is do we think that last year's performance was the odd year or the we think th eyear before was the odd year. I think, it could be a little of both, maybe.

no i mean i know that he can't do it by himself, but once he gets behind the net, it the d could just pinch in the right way... i just can't accept them sitting on their heels out there. gorges isn't there yet-- tort like nervous-- but that's why i wanted oduya so bad.. there is some need for speed altogether on the d.

so weeps you in fact in the final analysis might be right, that we can't expect that much from him, but i'd still give him the benefit of the doubt.

quote me: well anyway that's the way i see it

martin by the way looks like he knows he offense like a (oh my god- how do i get into these situations?) m o t h e ...!

the other thing about pleks is that besides having kovy and his independent rhythm, my thinking is that kovy was 4-5% slower last year than two years ago, but pleks had 44 & 28 9hamr and gorges)for his d men so often and that pairing just was wrong.

i think pleks was somewhat of a whipping boy- whether in his mind or did carbs think two czecks would actually be better i do not know, but i think pleks went a little mental.

if you look back at play by play in the nhl's game summaries you will see that at least to start pleks was getting something done each and every time he had markov for his d, and then failure just got greater and greater as he got paired with bouillion and brisebois, and andrei when he had giveaways, and more and more blocked shots on his watch, and then it was higgins with kovy, and this and that...

so...

should be interesting if nothing else to see how pleks fares this year. i think he's at least as good as gomez though not quite as sure of himself.

Plekanec is a funny one to me.

Imo he's a skilled player and does pretty well most of the time in the regular season.

He really has very little impact in the playoffs though.

I am happy that he called himself out on his playoff play (I play like a little girl) a couple of years ago, at least he knows it and can somehow work toward overcoming it. But still, he does not produce like a #2 center needs to produce come playoff time.
