We need to forget what Gomez has never achieved in NY (big contribution). Gomez realizes that his arrival in MTL is an golden opportunity to surprise everyone and turn the page in his hockey career. Gomez seems to understand the pressure of playing in MTL and from what I have heard his dedication is undeniable. (Arrived in early August, french lessons, has been on the ice for a while)

I sure hope he is paired with Cammelleri. We need to pair our best playmaker with our best scorer ... as simple as that.

So does that make me well with in my right to question your competence

Minotaur, what makes Gomez worth 7 mill to you, you speak of points and thats it. He brings alot more than that to this team. Im sure he will put up 70-80 pts easily, but he will also be responsible for going up against other teams big guns, PP, PK, he brings speed, tenacity, flash and dash, all roled up into this 5'11" 7 mill dollar ball of mucsle(dudes ripped). He will flourish under J. Martins style just like he did in Jersey under the same defensive minded coaching system, only Martin will let them run 'n' gun.

We should all be excited about this team, a whole new look, #1 center, I love Koivu, will always be my favorite hab of all time, but it was time to move on, Gomez will be great for us, he should rekindle the flame with Gionta, add Camm to the picture and we finally have a true #1 line the will play thier heart and soul out for ya.

I am very excited about this years team, 18 more days baby Leafs and Habs

Go Habs Go

it wasnt time to move on from saku he wanted to return and could of done wonderful as the 2nd center

This is true, Gainey picked pleks over koivu I guess, younger, faster, more agile, fits right in with the teams new look, but when your right your right, he would have made a good 2nd line center.

He will tear it up in Anaheim this year with Selanne and who ever else they pair them up with.

Good luck saku

speaking of gaining the zone on the PP there needs to actually be a plan in place this year unlike lastyear which was just god awful to watch

Ugh, please don't remind me! Easily one of the most frustrating things about watching this team last year was ineptitudes such as this. We just couldn't win races on dump-and-chase situations (whether it be bad puck placement or lack of hustle) and had no success waltzing into the zone with the puck as many other teams did on us. Hopefully this is a problem that will be addressed this year.

No. If you read the Code of Conduct, you'll see that personal attacks on other members are prohibited. It boils down to this: discuss hockey, not other members.

If he puts up 75 or more points, I'll be happy. I know you're eager to believe in this new team, and I understand the need to be optimistic, but Martin is not a run and gun coach, nor is Gomez the most physical center the NHL has ever seen. We'll see how this shakes out, though.

Parts of this new team do excite me, but that excitement is going to wear off quickly if the team doesn't perform. I've never advocated change for its own sake.

You can talk about intangibles and defensive responsibility, but in the end, the primary job of a first-line player is to score. If he doesn't score at an acceptable rate, he is not suitable for the job. And I stand by my opinion that Gomez is not a no. 1 center. That being said, let's agree to let his performance do the talking. We'll check back in during the season and see if he really is living up to that price tag and no. 1 center designation.

Have to correct you sir, Gomez had like over 10 wingers along him and no one metched with him. He has an akward style thats hard to play with. Since no one could find chemestry with him.

Wish him the best though since he never acted like a punk.

Sather has had an great summer so i dont know, just getting rid of Gomez for higgins and a top prospect saved his *****. Then he made some other good pickups, gilroy, prospal for a bargain price, gaborik, katolik.

Btw how is Ryan McDonough ?

He found that back with gionta though. maybe it will happen again. only time will tell. Obviously i hope it works out better for us with gomez than it does for you with higgins :P although higgins was one of my favorite players

Just saw the video of Gomez's goal today, sniped it right by Price. Hope he can do this in the season!

let's stay optomistic, lets return to a 3 line offense- lest not expect martin to be a goof, lets give bg a chance, lets be aware one monkey doesn't stop the show.

I never said I wouldn't give Gomez a chance. I most definitely will. I'd love for him to prove me wrong and tear it up this season. But am I optimistic? No, nor do I see any reason why I should be, given Gomez's NHL career until this point.

Gomez is coming off a wretched year, he's paid an awful lot of money, and he's just replaced Saku Koivu down the middle. It's up to him to man up and show us that Gainey didn't make a huge mistake acquiring him and his ludicrous cap hit for the next five years. If he rises to the challenge, I'll be the first one in here eating crow, believe me.

70 to 80 points does not equal the huge cap hit for Gomez. However Gomez appears to be the missing piece for other UFA players. Gionta and Cammi signed with Montreal in large part due to the trade that brought Gomez to Montreal. The three small forwards will make our team better then Koivu, Kovalev, and Tanguay. And I really liked Koivu as our captain and loved some of the goals that Kovalev had for our team. However these three forwards will be members of our top 6 forwards for many more seasons giving our team stability as we build around some of the young potential stars that will lead our team to a lot of wins.

But Gomez, from what I've read, is a candidate for Captain, a job he wouldn't take lightly. I think he will do what's required and "man up" as you say. Plus, I doubt he wants to have two wretched seasons in a row. He can be great, and I think he wants to be again. Plus, I just don't see him as the kind of player who takes many nights off, nor will the new coach let him.

It's his time to shine again!

this is philosophy weeps for me- not hockey yet because the year hasn't started. gomez will not be the player one would have chosen until you start putting him togethor mentally with "+ carey" and trying to get something closer to stealing games or captaincy, or leadership. that much i guarantee (but save me some crow).

my gomez - and its just a developing idea of a new player on the habs that i refer to- is not one to use the d for offense- is not one who has shown the leadership to be the captain- is not the one to be carey's best friend, but IS a player who will fall into martin's system with something of a style that can be coached into at least a scintilla of all three of those traits showing through should everything go ok- and why shouldn't they?

the money is gone- forget it.

do i think bg is over the hill? off the wall? down the tubes? plummeting from the skies? no. (and that's a second helping of crow so... but i used to love slingshots, and i do hate crows) :D

Some impressions from Habs I/O.

"In his post-practice scrum today, Scott Gomez compared Carey Price to Martin Brodeur.

He said he was blown away by Andrei Kostitsyn's skill level.

He likes playing with Mike Cammalleri.

And he's surprised the Bell Centre will be sold out tomorrow night for the exhibition opener against Florida.

Gomez delivers these observations with a ready smile and the affability that is characteristic of Americans.

He'll be a joy to cover this season."

:lol: Oh Scott. Watch out for the media... Watch out!

The more i see/hear about him, the more i like him ;) MMW, if AK-Gomez-Cammy stays together, its going to be one of the best lines in the NHL this year.
