leafs_rock_go_mccabe
Do we still have Metro? I liked his dedication. I would ask the same question... But I wouldn't follow it up with similar comments about his dedication. I would possibly ask, "Why?" Or, "For how much longer?"
Rocket-1
He was signed for 2 years when we first got him. And why ? It's easy.... Because Carbo didn't like Steve Bégin.

In retrospect the move was so bad it makes my head hurt. It's not like giving Begin some added ice time down the stretch would have hurt our pathetic chances at competing in the play-offs. Instead we dealt him, and added a guy signed for an extra year... Right now I could sure go for another free spot for a younger player.
Habcore
Right now I could sure go for another free spot for a younger player. Metro is good defensively and on faceoffs, as much as I would like to see his spot go to a younger player (for cap and developement reasons), they still have to earn that spot. Nothings written in stone so IF he gets beat out of a job then I'm sure he'll be waived, if not then I'm glad we have him. Camp competition is never a bad thing. I'm not so sure if he is good on face-offs. Does anyone know where we can get statistics for his face-off percentage last season? I remember (possibly, wrongly) that when he came here he was doing well on draws initially, but then tapered off severly as the season was coming to and end. js2
He was very inconsistent in the circle as he ranged from 16-77% in his final 10 regular season games. I still would have rather used Chipchura in his place to allow him to gain some experience to start this season in Montreal.
habs-24
brutal move on Bobs part to pick him up last year with 1 year remaining on his contract at 1million, he just doesnt bring what we need and his love affair with the bruins during the handshakes in game 4 was sickening to watch

fourtrax
Good guy, seems like he tries hard, but yet another of Bob's waste pickups. Thankfully, we only have him for this year.
concreteveins
I believe that Metropolit will earn the fourth line centre position and be one of the anchors for the bottom of the line-up in terms of leadership, key face-offs won, penalty killing and puck possession. I don't get why everyone thinks he is a waste pick-up. He played consistently for a fourth liner no matter who he was paired with last year. Watch for a surprise... I think a lot of fans, and myself personally, just wanted someone else what was drafted in the organization to get those minutes. Metropolit, yes, is not a huge detriment to the club, but he also now stands in the way of a younger player getting an opportunity. Metropolit is not going to make or break the team, but I would still rather give that chance to a younger player, like Chipchura.

bell75
Very good game for Metropolit last night, Sept 18. He was flying around, interacting with coaches, taking shots, I loved it!
Manatee-X
I know a lot of people aren't big on Metro based on the fact that he takes away a spot from a younger guy, and that's a valid point for sure. At some point though, these younger guys are going to have to earn that spot by playing better (or at least close to as well) as Metropolit does and that's something that I just haven't seen yet. Metro to me is pretty much the perfect fit for our forth line. He's speedy, he's great defensively and most importantly he's got the combination of grit and good hands that lets him effectively keep the puck in the offensive zone (which he's done very well both last year and in all the preseason games I've seen him in so far). What more could you ask of a fourth line? Add to that the fact that he can score if given the chance. As much as I loved players like Kosto and Begin, for all the times they forced their way into scoring position they almost always choked on the shot (except that one good year Begin had, I guess). Stewie-Metro-Laraque (if he's ever healthy) is about the best fourth line we could ask for, IMO
CanadianMike
Don't know what it is about this guy (I guess that he taking a roster spot away from another player like mentioned above), but he has played pretty well. Some nice moves I have seen from him. I guess he could have his place on the 4th line. J Martin must like him and his experience too since Metro is wearing an "A" (last 2 games I saw). He may have locked up the 4th line center position with his play so far... but in any case he would be a very decent substitute in the clutch. Unfortunately this probably hampers a player like Desharnais, who arguably has been one of the very bright spots this pre-season regardless of his very small stature.
