Basically, if we want another cup, give Lapierre the C, he has what it takes, regardless of youth and his ability to get under other players skin's, he has the drive and passion, and most importantly hails from 'la belle province' !

From what I heard, the habs old practice was to vote for their cap, and from what I've heard ( as the other posters have mentioned ) Gomez is taking french lessons.

Looks like our boyz already voted for their leader, all good, Gomez, I have a feeling you have some Quebecois blood in ya somewhere, if you don't gimme a shout I'll loan ya some !

Go habs !! With Gomez or Lapierre, this year's gonna be solid.

The Canadiens have only two leaders that should be considered for captian right now, Markov and Lapierre. These guys know what the expectations are for this team from management and most importantly from the fans. These guys also did their time in a habs uniform and are great leaders, all of the newcomers shouldnt even be considered.

I think the original question was "Who will emerge as the new leaders on this team?"

All those mentioned frequently above will become the new leaders, won't they? After all, the only one left of last season's As and our Captain, is Markov. So someone has to step up.

Obviously we can't second guess the team's decision, but we can speculate (and have been) who will be the new C. My money (for waht it's worth, being foreign) is on Gomez. But whoever it is in the C, they have some very very big boots to fill, in my humble opinion and they won't last as long as our previous Captain or have as much love directed at them. 10 years is a long time and I don't see anyone on the roster that I feel can fill Saku's place in our hearts.

whats up with all these Gomez fans willing to hand over the "C" to him!!!!!!! The guy didnt do anything since he got his big fat contract and he really wasn't a leader before that. the guy better put up at least 4 or 5 100+ point seasons and play with heart ,and hurt to do everything for this team before he would get anywhere near that "C". the guy better worry about winning games and not his next million dollar paycheck.

Whoa! I sense some animosity there. I think most Habs fans are willing to sit back and see if the team wins or not before villifying Gomez. With that said, most seem disappointed with his salary, but what can we do? Gainey made the decision, and at the end of the day we all have to hope it works out. If he emerges as a leader, then so be it. If not, I'm sure someone else will. ;)
