The Next City In The States To Have A Team.....

The next US city to have an NHL team will be Kansas City. They have a brand new rink (owned by one of Buttman's buddies - the LA Kings owner) sitting empty. Either by relocation (likely) or via expansion.

Other cities I feel are likely (in order)

-Las Vegas (buttman's plan coming to fruition)

-Houston

-Seattle/Portland

-Hartford

I believe that buttman's plan is to have all those cities before ever allowing more Canadian teams...not because he's anti-canadian or pro-american but because more Canadian teams = more revenue so much more that the Cap goes up too high for many american based teams (Florida, Atlanta) to pay the baseline cap.

Look I said it before, what is the big deal with Las Vegas?? Look NO OTHER MAJOR SPORTS LEAGUE has a team there so why is the thinking that an NHL team will work there? Baseball has a minor league team, no football team and I really don't think the NFL is looking to go there either, maybe the NBA at some point but that has become more of a corporate sport anyway...with ticket prices getting too high for average fans........I guess I don't get the connection with ice hockey, the desert and the south west...........

I don't like Las Vegas either, I'm just putting my guess in because Bettman has a hard-on for that town. It likely has alot to do with the fact there are NO other major professional sports teams there, a large population and a ton of visitors. Bettman does have a facination with desert hockey for some reason, but likeliest reason is that one of his friends (Bruckheimer) wants a team there.

Put a team back in Quebec, the rivalry would bring back memorys and I think it is the best place to put a team.

My second choice would be to bring the Jets back, Bettman is a Businessman and he is thinking that a huge population of people can make money if he gets a % of those people to watch Hockey. Down South Nascar and Football are what sells.

By the Way does Bettman own a pair of skates ?

I think there is a great need for change for the commissioner of the National Hockey League.

Bettman does seem to have a fascination with Vegas. Last I heard, Bruckheimer has lost interest in an NHL franchise. Maybe Gary just wants more guy time with his half brother, Jeffrey Pollack, who is the commissioner for the World Series of poker and VP at Harrah's Casinos.

Vegas does have an ECHL team (the Wranglers). There attendance, as far as ECHL teams go, wasn't bad averaging 4600 last year. I don't think the ECHL will be around much longer as 5 out of 22 teams will not be playing next year. They had dropped 3 teams in 07-08. Go salmon kings go!

Vegas would be stupid. No one goes there for sports, other then fights. No other sport could survive there as people only go there for the gambling.

The next US city to get an NHL team should have interest in hockey and a good sized media market. Seattle is the 13th largest media market (Phoenix is 12th).

Seattle has a long hockey history having won the Stanley Cup in 1917 defeating the Canadiens. The Metropolitans were the first team outside of Canada to do so. The metros also played for the stanley cup in 1919 and should have won it due to the Canadiens forfeiting. The 1919 series was canceled with no winner.

They also had some very good semi-pro minor league teams in the Pacific coast league and the Western Hockey League. ( teams like the ironmen, totems, and americans).

Seattle has had a WHL junior hockey team since the late 1970s ( breakers / thunderbirds ). They hosted the memorial cup in 1992.

At the grassroots level, Seattle has a good minor hockey program and various rec leagues etc. The people in Seattle know the game and that is half the battle.

If the NHL were smart, they would realign the pacific division -- LA, SJ, Ducks, vancouver and Seattle. The division name would make sense since all the teams would play in the pacific time zone. Vancouver and Seattle would have a close rivalry and I'm sure 'nuckleheads would travel down the I-5 for games.

Out of all the US cities mentioned here. I don't have an issue really with Seattle BUT Hartford is the largest market in the US without a pro- sports team.
