Carey Price Domination

if Carey Price can shut down the opposition this season then we will be a top 5 team in the east for sure. We have the firepower to score an average of 3.5 goals per game which is enough to win games. Our defense should tighten up. The biggest question mark will be Carey Price. If he can play to the level of his talent then our season will be significantly better than last year.

I know MP is going to be all over my post for using the word consistency :P

But, I'd like to see some consistency throughout the team... Meaning they all come out to play every night. Not like last year, where a few players would show up on one night, the next night they take a break and it's up to someone else to show up. We need everyone to do their part and come each and every game ready to play.

It was rare to see the whole team show up last season and that's what I'd like to see this season...

True team spirit and hustle every night.

Based on your list, the choice has to be Price becoming dominant. Like Weep, my #1 dream for this year is wins & lots of them. AK can score 30+ goals, Gomez can crack 80 points, Markov can lead dmen in scoring - all of these things could happen, but the only player who could singlehandedly make or break this season is price.

I believe in the kid & i think this is the year he will show us all so that's my choice.

In all seriousness though, like I said in the goalie thread, consistency is only valuable if in the end theres results. If you're consistently bad why does it matter?

Hmm. Jed, I'm gonna have to disagree with you on this one. Price will not make or break our season. If he plays poorly, Halak will play. If he plays well, he'll continue to play. What will make or break our season IMO is an overall team commitment to systems, whether that be defense, offense, or special teams (PP & PK). Last year, under Carbonneau, we had no system, just a bunch of individuals trying to make plays on their own and not succeeding very often.

If our team-wide commitment to defense is strong (and by team-wide, I mean d-men and forwards), the goalie, whether it's Carey or Jaro, shouldn't make or break our season.

Part of the problem with our club is that we have depended on our goalie to save our bacon for far too long. It worked with Roy, but hasn't worked with any goalie we've had since then. Inevitably, they all crack under the pressure. If the team is better as a whole, it puts less pressure on the goalie, which is a great thing IMO, because the goalie in hockey, like the quarterback in football, gets too much credit when things go well, and too much blame when things go wrong.

Valid points, Weep - and I do hope that our 'system' is finally a real one - something we havent had since Demers.

As I wrote my post I started thinking "this is exactly the sort of thing that has made guys like Price and Theo & Thibeault before him, crack under the pressure"

So I (partially) rescind my remark -or at very least add an asterisk:

I think that Price can singlehandedly have the most impact on the team. I do believe that if we want to go far, the team needs to play as one.

Of course he can, hes a goalie with a very high roof. Therefore he can potentially have the most impact. However as I said before, nobody should be expecting anything other than an average year from him, hes still very young.

Obviously we all watch the Habs to see them win, that's what playing the game is all about.

But I'd like to see an over-all honest to gawd full effort game in game out. Not that I'd ever be happy with a loss, but I'd rather see them lose with a 110% effort, than go out and lose due to a halfhearted effort.

Lets be real, it would be great if they came out of the gate winning. But I feel that it'll be a lil while before the chemistry starts happening. That's why right now, win or lose I'd be happy with an overall effort from the team as a whole-even if they're down by 5 goals, that they continue to play like it's a one goal game. I guess that falls into the team spirit category.

I guess people really do want to see some Carey Price domination coming up! When your goaltender excels there's always a chance to win games!

Not me  (and someone else that voted for Halak. :P I agree on the goalie part of your post, but sometimes it is the underdog that comes through and shines. ;)

Can't wait for this season to start!

For a goalie to dominate he needs solid D and timely scoring....this translates to wins.

If Price plays like he did his 1st season and the 1st half of last season, with solid D we're looking at a top 4 berth into the playoffs and HOPEFULLY a LONG playoff run.

GO HABS GO!!!!!!!!!!!
