Camp Invitees

Salary cap does not leave room for much. But Lang deserves a shot if he wants it. Anyone else that only wants a million. Boullion is still unsigned is he not?

It's definately time to move on with Bouillon, our d is much improved from last year, and as of right now we have no spots open for our youth. And for everyone complaining about our lack of size all we need is another 5'8 guy, sure he plays like he's 6 foot and i respect him for that but theres no chance Bouillon's coming back.

Lang better be at training camp. If not, I will be pissed at Gainey for not taking a chance on a zero risk move that could substantially increase our center depth.

Well there is one risk: you bring in lang as a band-aid, you dont give future centres like Maxwell a chance & then next summer Pleks walks & you're left with a gaping hole between Gomez & Lapierre.

I think based on the overall quality this team has up front, now is probably the time to try to see what a youngster can do. Nothing against Lang, but signing him now could be a hugely short sighted move.

Agree. I really think Maxwell needs to get some more NHL action in this year. Last season he looked completely lost out there in his handful of games. He needs a few opportunities this season to get accustomed to the speed of the game. Giving him a few opportunities on a scoring line will be good for his confidence and his possible future as our 2nd line center.

I don't think Maxwell is even close to NHL ready based on how he performed last season when he was called up. Another full year in Hamilton would do him well.

I'm hearing on another forum that Team 990 just confirmed that Lang was indeed offered a camp invite. No word on whether or not he accepted.

I am on the fence because on one side I want the team to be the best it can be, but on the other side the kids must be given an opportunity for the future of the Habs.

I would go with not getting Lang and seeing how the team (key players that need to step up = Andrea and Plek) do before making any other addition.

My feelings exactly. Surely, if we needed to, there are options as good, if not better, than Lang available once the season rolls around. Yes we'd need to move players/picks to get them vs. just signing lang, but i think thats a risk you have to take.

My view is that if Lang becomes a 'band-aid' soultion, it gives us room to move Pleks THIS year, still have a good option for second line center, and still have room for young guys. Lang will be cheap to get, and Pleks HAS to be traded ( he isn't going to stay in montreal, he's already cracked under pressure, and he's not really even hiding the fact that he may go elsewhere).

There is ZERO risk of giving Lang a try -out at training camp, and if he can go for one more year, we have our 'back-up' that gives us leverage in dealing Pleks (again, I dont' dislike the player, I just dont' see him coming back, and therefore should be traded for whatever we can get for him, draft picks would be nice).

If Lang is 100% he's a huge update over any possible kids that we have in our system.

Buy out Metropolit (or keep him just in case) and our center are.

Gomez

Plekanec

Lang

Lapierre

I wouldn't mind that at all. It gives Maxwell another year on the farm to get ready for NHL duty in 2010-2011! Chipchura could make the team as a spare. That bloody Metropolit acquisition still boggles my mind.

I have been following the Lang thinking for some time and am very confused. One group is suggesting Lang has been invited to training camp as a tryout, RDS is reporting Lang has been invited by 4-5 teams as a training camp tryout and Montreal is not one of them.

The question is . . . who is right. Is Lang coming to the Montreal camp as a tryout, one thing for sure, he can’t go to all of the camps. Although, he could go one camp and be offered a contract from another team.

My suggestion for a second line center is based on the logic, Gainey has blown-up last years team and is rebuilding on a different foundation. I think Lang ( Kovalev’s friend ) at 39 or 40 years old would only slow down the re-build, as well, he very slow .

My thinking is, you go ‘full court press’ after a young 2nd line center ie; Berglund or Hanzal and pay whatever it takes while you have the currency today, and the price tag is not over inflated in two or three years. I have been reading the same postings for almost four years” we need a real second line BIG center” and here it is four years later and guess what, We still do !.
