fourtrax
From canadiens.com: Pierre Groulx spent the past four seasons with the Florida Panthers organization under head coach and general manager Jacques Martin, as well as Peter DeBoer during the 2008-09 season. In his first two seasons with the Panthers, Groulx worked primarily as video coach before adding the duties of assistant/goaltending coach to his resume in 2007-08. Groulx began his career at the professional level in Ottawa where he spent five seasons as the Senators video coach. Groulx was also a member of the coaching staff for Team Canada at the World Hockey Championships in Austria in April 2005. Pierre Groulx started his coaching career as an assistant and goaltending coach with the Cumberland Grads of the Ontario Central Junior "A" Hockey League. SteenIsThaFuture
the guy cant be much worse than Rollie Interesting thing to note here: Over the past 10 years (where Roland Melanson was the head of goaltending coach and development for the organazation) the Habs ranked tied for 4th in the league in SV% at .910. Behind Minny, Florida, Anaheim and tied with New Jersey. I'm not saying Melanson was a great coach, nor am I saying hes a bad one, as I said before we have no idea of knowing anything he was responsible for, other than the one freaking quote, people seem to use to define him as a coach. However what is a fact, is it seems Montreal was one of the top goaltending teams in the league under his tenure, be it due to him or not. http://www.fromtherink.com/2009/8/25/10013...ding-not-as-bad

357908_1475251331
you have to know who you are coaching, and it wouldn't surprise me to hear that carey has more than one potential coach who wouldn't do well by him, but to say that you can't affirm or deny the usefullness of a coach is somewhat stretching it. fourtrax
With both Carey and Jaro playing well this season, one has to give some credit to our new goalie coach, even though there's obviously no way for us to know how much impact he's had on our two young netminders. One thing's for sure: I don't see Carey playing deep in his net as frequently as I did last season.

One thing's for sure: I don't see Carey playing deep in his net as frequently as I did last season. If nothing else, Groulx seems not to overcoach. I liked Melanson & it seemed he did some great things with just about every goalie montreal had - but in just about every case - only for a short period. I mean look at all the guys that flourished under him: Theo, Huet, Garon, Halak, Price... ...but then one by one they would falter & more often than not you'd say "why is he doing that" - ie Carey playing so far in his net, Huet changing his style etc. Sometimes the best coaches know when to back off & let the players do their own thing/fix their own problems. After all, they all got to the NHL because of their abilities, not their previous coaches.

tmash
Need to add a post in here: it's tough to conclusively link a goaltending coach to the goaltenders, this season we've had some of the most consistent goaltending I can remember in a long time. I feel much more confident in our goaltending this season and I have to give a little credit to the coach.

Both our goalies have been getting it done for us, and whatever the coach is or isn't doing certainly seems to be working.
