Hamrlik to the Predators?

Written by Jason Hendricks Saturday, 19 September 2009 06:58

According to Toutsurlehockey.com Roman Hamrlik wasn't sick last night but instead is possibly on the verge of being traded away to make room for P.K. Subban. The Nashville Predators are the rumored destination team for Roman Hamrlik.

Hendricks Says : First and foremost Hamrlik has a no trade clause. He has to waive that first. Then you have his $5.5 million contract, that I don't think the Preds are willing to pick up. And Hamrlik is getting old and its starting to show. Yeah, I could see them wanting to make room for P.K. Subban, but they are going to have a hard time moving Hamrlik and his salary. Don't really see this one coming to fruitation.

Not sure how strong a source Toutsurlehockey.com is but it's def an interesting rumor.

I don't really see the point in this trade. The possible return we get for Hamrlik doesn't make up for not having him on the ice this year IMO. Unless we really want to give our young guys a chance, but then I don't get why we signed 3 UFA dmen this offseason in the first place.

Not very likely. However. There are some teams with cap issues and some UFA and possibly RFA players that BG could go after with the $5.5 million cap space. I think that Hammer will have a bounce back season if he is paired with either Spacek, Mara, Gill, or Gorges. Basically someone he doesn't have to babysit. However if there is opportunity to get rid of $5.5 million then a good GM has to seriously consider any trade. Especially if someone like Suter is the return.

Is PK Subban ready? Maybe. The upside of maybe could be so huge that you find room on the roster.

Will Hammer be traded? not likely. but things are changing with Heatley and Kessel finding new teams recently. Vancouver, Calgary, and Toronto both appear to have a surplus of defencemen. Chicago might have too many forwards.

On paper the only problem with our team is Pleks is a small center and Hammer is "overpaid". Several other teams need to clear cap space before October 1st. If Montreal had $5.5 million available the possible waive pickups or trades for low end prospects could solve the perceived holes in the roster.

Add Gomez to Plekanec being small at center... oh and Metropolit

At this point I consider both Plekanec and Gomez similar in stature and what they have to offer in terms of skill... not much difference there IMO. Scary!!!

It is interesting that Hamrlik has been absent from action, merited or not. With all of the NHL caliber lefties signed by Gainey it would seem logical that someone could be traded away. And Hamrlik's 5.5 million would be ideal to move as far as dollars go... but at the same time very hard to move precisely because of that.

Give it away for little return just to gain the much coveted cap space? Somehow I doubt it... but stranger things have happened perhaps.

I think Higgins had decent trade value.

Well, I thought so anyway, all we got was ~half of Gomez.

I was speaking more about how Higgins's name was tossed around in every trade rumor last season. Whenever he missed a game, everyone speculated that he was purposely being held out of the lineup because a trade was pending. :)

Well one could argue that if a trade could have been made he would have been traded ;) I think the fact that both Higgins and Komisarek are no longer Habs may be attached to that speculation.

Its a cap thing with Hamrlik IMO... if he was making 3 million it could/would be different.

I doubt that Hamrlik will be traded to the Preds but the following trade I would love to see happen.

To Nashville:

Roman Harmlik

Tomas Plekanec

3rd rounder in 2011 if Plekanec isn't re-signed after next season

To Montreal:

Jason Arnott

2nd rounder in 2010

Nashville gets an experienced d-man and a younger skilled 2-way center. Montreal gets the big center we've been missing since a long time and free up some salary.

geez, a guy cant have a little flu bug that he's soon become traded? for the record hammer skated today and will play against the booins tomorrow night

What's your source? :P I think the person you saw was an imposter.

Let's assume for a moment there is truth to this Nashville thingie. This isn't talked about much I guess because we simply don't know but...........Hamrlik has a partial NTC I think. Nashville doesn't sound like a designated team for him. He seems more interested in either playing in Canada and maybe next more traditional type hockey markets (Detroit, Chicago, etc.). Unless of course he waives the NTC. Anybody else have a reasonable guess where we could trade him to before Feb. 1?

Gainey shouldnt trade Hammer. If we were to make a run this season we need a vet d-man along for the ride, he is a pretty good d-man and has a lil offensive upside.

Go Habs Go

Exactly,

By moving Hammer out of our top 6 and adding PK only makes our team weaker. It is more important for the team and SUbban to start in the AHL. Give him time to get a lot of ice time in the AHL.

This rumor is silly
