swimmerpuck
I wanted to see what Weber could do before making a move like this. If Weber has a shot which he does then I'd prefer someone more defensive minded as an addition. Even Dandenault would have been okay. Gainey really does have a D-man fetish, doesn't he? Oh well. Habcore
Not crazy about this signing, BG should have seen what Weber could do first. The Good news is, at least Bergeron signed for a good price.
leafs_rock_go_mccabe
Good signing. For $750,000 on a 1 year deal, we couldn't ask for much more. If he can add 30-35 points and quarterbacks the powerplay this will look like quite the bargain. Curiously, why did he go unsigned for so long? He couldn't be THAT bad defensively, could he? Markov & O'Byrne...Weber is Markov's replacement, he's been called up already...this is to cover O'byrne. J
pitbull12
Good signing, cheap and can get it done on the PP...If your 5'10 and can shoot the ouck over 100 mph your doing something right!

What will we do with Weber or Bergeron when our D will be restored? Weber will go back down to continue his developement or Bergeron will sit, or O'Byrne will go down, or there will be another injury to a defensemen by then, lot's of possibilities, but that's the nice thing it gives you options for cheap...remember we are talking 2 months on OB (December) and 4 months on Markov (February)...this is a smart signing. Peenz
See that is why we don't pay attention to that Wikipedia *****! it is like reading and believing what ecklund says!!! I have to say, considering our current situation with injury's, this deal makes perfect sense. Marc will provide some support for guys like georgie and weber, and i agree with the guy tossin hal gil under the bus already, hes just a very very large pylon out there! roy_133
So, what happens when all our defencemen are healthy? I think it's fair to say that we're not married to Bergeron and he can be waived at any minute. He's a stop gap unless he proves himself too valuable (don't bank on that, lol)
gracie12
Well, im not particularly thrilled about this move, although at the price, I suppose its not really a huge risk. I frankly would have rather seen Dandy - he can dress as the 7th dman and play 4th line wing if necessary, plus he's much more defensively sound - but Im willing to give MAB a chance. Hopefully he has the whole league saying "jeez why didnt we sign this guy" - i mean he did score 46 points one year. We now have five guys on the back-end who have all cracked 40 points at least once.

Considering the last time we made a move for "insurance" on d it cost us about $5m and mike ribeiro, yeah, id say this is a much better option. lol.
