Larry-Launstein-Jr
I wanted to put this up because I get quite a bit of heat for being a Habs fan in the heart of Red Wing Country. They like to go "what have the Habs done lately"? They back their team, no doubt, but I want to know of anybody who has taken heat for being a Habs fan in another NHL city, state, or province. How about those of you from other countries? Most of the Wings fans I know are essentially "hubba, hubba Red-a-Wings (imagine someone flexing their arms to show their biceps), and do not like anybody with a contrary point of view. Personally, I don't care what they think, but some of the heat gets way too carried away. I want to know your thoughts on this subject. Which team's fans give you the most heat where you live? I recently discovered that one of my race-walking friends is also a Habs fan, and she actually lived in Montreal for awhile with her husband, egad, a Leafs fan. Makes for an interesting night watching the game for them.
Guest
You should try being a Hab fan in the middle of Leaf Nation. Talk about fair weather fans. Its bad enough i have to hear the constant banter about every new player being the 2nd comming of Gretzky. They win and i get the gears,,,,,they lose, and they all dissapear. Its almost comical. Living just East of Toronto, in Durham, every day I hear leafs this, leafs that...so I'm in the same boat as you. Recently, one of my managers at work, who is not even a leafs fan(or maybe he is), starts giving me grief about the Vancouver game the other night. "Oh, I'm a Vancouver fan now, but I still like Toronto." Then he asks me if the loafs have won a game yet. I tell him, "I don't know man, your the fan of your own team...oh wait, that's right, you have multiple teams so it's hard for you to keep track. If I remeber correctly, YOUR team is win-less so far in the season." Then I get one of these faces <--- Manager <--- Me <--- Me Again <--- And one more time Probably my favourite moment this week was when I was working Wednesday night. This happened before the Habs 'Nucks game. My store(restaurant) hired 2 new girls for hostessing, and some of the veteran servers and myself were talking hockey. The 2 new girls were listening in, and added that they liked the leafs and 'yaada 'yaada 'yaada. Then my buddy(leafer) in response says "too bad they lost last night." I, of course, chuckled, and in unision another server chuckled aswell. As soon as we both realized we were both chuckling at the same thing, we both burst out laughing at each other. HABS FANS UNITED!
Dintrox12
When the Habs come out west and go 0-3. It is hard to take. I get a lot of ribbing from Flames fans and the canuckle heads....
roy_133
I live in Winnipeg and don't really get any heat for it at all, in fact I'd say I see more Habs gear around here than any other team and when I wear a CH jersey out the feedback is 70% positive, haha. haberry
I have many different situations. Grew up near OTTAWA. There was no such thing as the Sens back then. They came into the league when I was 15 years old. They were brutal the first few years. Then they started winning and getting a fan base. Sens fans are all ex Leaf or ex Hab fans. They all jumped ship from those teams. Not really much grief. Sens fans seem to hate the Leafs more than anything. Then I moved to TORONTO living in there with my Hab Flag in my bedroom window. Everyone was pretty cool. I had a few run ins here and there. If you go to the College/Yonge subway station there is a Hab's mural there. Never seems to get defaced either. Lived out west in BANFF for awhile and plenty of Habs fans there. It is a town where there aren't too many people who were from there. Everyone moved there from various places in Canada. Lots of fans from all teams. There was even an Islander fan and Devils fans. Quite a few french people were Avalanche fans (Nordiques). Lots of yipping from all around but you usually had another hab fan in the room somewhere. Then I started backpacking all over. You meet up with fans from all teams. I remember watching Team Canada beating the Czech Republic in the Hockey World Cup at a bar in PRAGUE. That was magic!!! Even though Canada had no business winning that game. It was cool being in a bar surrounded by Czech fans. Everyone was loud but respectful. I was with a bunch of Canadian backpackers. We tried to get into Jagr's sports bar. The bouncer's wouldn't let us in. HAHA!! They knew better than to have a bunch of Canadians cheering against the owner in his own pub. Now in MELBOURNE, Australia. Not too many fans here. Although I did see a guy driving his car with a Pens jersey on the day of the 7th game.

haberry
Probably on Vaca and had his lab top and steaming the game too. They do show Hockey here. It is on the aussie version of expressview or rogers dish. It is always the VS. broadcasts. Lots of Rangers games. They are on in the afternoon because of the time change. I watched the Stanley Cup final at the Crown Casino in Melbourne. If you watch poker it is the casino where they hold the Aussie Millions Poker tourney. swimmerpuck
I have to contend with mostly Flyers' fans and they can dish it out pretty good. I would not wear a Habs' jersey to a game though because I value my life too much. Philadelphia fans are notorious for being off of the wall, rabid fans. I was at a huge sports bar this past weekend where they had different big screens featuring different football games. It was quite interesting because of the locality of the bar and the variety of fans present including: Eagles, Ravens (the most local team), Redskins and Steelers fans. The Eagle fans were the most boisterous. LOL
FlHabsFan
I dont get too much flak. But im also a fan of the local team, so that helps. (But I wear my CH jersey when the guys come to town). If anything, I get more flak from Quebec Hab fans who are curious as to why I am a fan. habsinottawa
I live in Ottawa, and man, I get it from my friends who are Ottawa and/or Leaf fans. Which I always find amusing, particularily from the Leaf fans. I just ask them to name the last time the Leafs had a winning record against us. As for Ottawa fans, I just call them traitors. gets my point across
