Luongo Way Overrated?

How is this guy considered the premier goaltender in the NHL, when he has won only 2 playoff series? He has missed the playoffs for 5 straight seasons with a Florida team that gave him no pressure to perform whatsoever. He goes to a stacked Vancouver team and can't save them either. Career win % below .500, the list goes on.......

And, yet... People get on Price for much less

You have to remember, those Florida teams were much worse than what they have now, and what they have now isn't exactly a Cup contender either.......

Who were those non-playoff Floriday teams coached by ....hmmm

He is overrated till he gets to the finals..Brodeur wasn't considerded great till he got there, Roy got their right away. To me a great goaltender is defined by when they make the big saves. Lets say you are a young goalie maybe your first full year and you get to a game 7 in the playoffs against a team that is a historic rival and you shut them out. That would go a long way towards me thinking you could be great some day..Luongo has got the press has never carried his team far into the playoffs. I would take a lot of goalies over him in the playoffs.

This thread should probably be in the regular around the league section, but anywho...

Where did everyone get into their head that Luongo's no good in the playoffs. ONE GAME against Chicago last year? He was great against St.Louis, and he was spectacular the previous time he participated in les series. Does nobody remember that insane series against Turco and the Stars where every game was a huge goalie's duel? This thread is kind of reduiculous.

EDIT: I'll add, too: he's no good because he hasn't been to the finals? He hasn't had good teams, and even if he had there are still only two teams out of thirty that make it to the finals each year. Lots of great goalies never make it to the finals. How about Miller?

so your example of his playoff stardom is against

1) Chicago first time in playoffs in how long and he lost

2) St Louis nuff said

3) playing in a duel against Turco with a team that was past their prime

Brodeur won it all with a bunch of ham and eggers. great coachin

As for Miller he does not get near the press Luongo does. By the way I never said he was no good in the playoffs. YOU said that. I said he never took a team far into the playoffs.. is this not a fact. And I said I would take alot of goalies for the playoffs.

broduer

osgood

giguerre

kipper

nabokov

just off the top of my head.. every one of these goalies got hot in the playoffs and stole a series that got them deep.. yes even Osgood

Brodeur - NJ

Osgood - Detroit

Giguerre - Anaheim

Kipper - Calgary

Nabokov - San Jose

Need I say anymore? These teams are in a different league than Florida and Vancouver.

what exactly is so bad about Vancouver they have a lot of good players and can attract players to come play there.

... Really? You know there's about 20 other players a part of a team.

Why not look at his career save percentage which is more relevant to a goalies abilities?

I agree!!! When he gets his team over the hump and finally steals some playoff series, I will respect him. I can't wait to see him choke again on the big Olympic stage.
