Bean-Counting-Hab
Interested to see for how much. I like the duration. 3rd and 4th line players' contracts need to be more modest than when Gainey was running the ship. I like Pyatt, but hope this deal is for somewhere around the $800,000 mark only, and not more. We need to be careful going forward with our cap dollars. Yes, 1 year is nice. $800K would be ideal, but I wouldn't be surprised or dissapointed if it was more like $1M. I would say he has a more offensive upside then your typical defensive forward/grinder. weedleaf
The Montreal Canadiens announced Monday that the club has signed winger Tom Pyatt to a one-year contract. It's a one-way deal that will pay him $500,000 next season. Great deal for both sides, Pyatt was in the minors for most the season, Now he will be a true NHLer... We get to save some $ by giving him the 1 way contract. And we really needed to get some Cheap players on the roster seeing how close we are to the cap
Bean-Counting-Hab
Ya, that's a steal, I really wasn't expecting anything below $750K.
Elkheart
$500,000.00 is a steal for Tommy , I am somewhat biased as I am a habs fan from Thunder Bay (Pyatt's hometown) , This kid will continue to get better , comes from a great family. He plays with heart and grit , not afraid to get his nose dirty. I think he did awesome job on the PK during the playoffs , really at 500k he is a steal. He will earn every $ and will be a player that MTL will want to lock up even longer after next season , mark my words , typical TBay boy , work boots , good attitude and gritty. Snow4Habs
Ya, that's a steal, I really wasn't expecting anything below $750K. Steal indeed, for a 4th liner or 3rd, right on the money. He'll give our top lines some rest with his pk skills. Just a great signing, and he's just got his nhl form this season. Absolutely wow! Things are looking better and better with each signings. Nick-Habs4Life-11
Wow nice job PG only 500k for Pyatt, I'm just worried we should of signed him to a 2 or 3 year deal, I see him playing extremely well next season and then expecting big money come next July 1. leafs_rock_go_mccabe
He was signed for a 1year 500k one-way contract as per tsn Excellent deal. I guess the security of a one-way contract swayed him to take the $500K. Good for Tom! I hope he has a great season.
js2
Only one year?
leafs_rock_go_mccabe
Only one year? One year and reevaluate. Seems like a decent plan to me. Especially when it comes to very replaceable 4th line grinders.

leafs_rock_go_mccabe
Pyatt is a future 3rd-2nd line player not just a 4th line grinder. Really? You think Pyatt is possibly a 2nd line player. I would not have believed that. I think his top level of production is probably only 25 or 30 points.
fourtrax
I like the deal. Low dollars and low term for a replaceable lower-line player. Pyatt's a good kid but players like him are a dime a dozen. On a short-term deal, he will have every reason to bust his tail.
habby-_mtlc
I like the signing. It's cheap but hopefully he'll get more next year by putting up good numbers this year. He wanted to stay in Montreal and I'm glad he's still here.
belhab
I think he'll be traded at dead line, packaged with somebody, maybe AK or Hammer. He can be easily replaced. I don't see anything great in this signing. Just usual off season work.
Bean-Counting-Hab
Hmmm it's possible but it seems unlikely to me he would be moved. I agree he's replaceable, but we're getting good value on his contract and there is still an outside shot he can show us more offensively this year. Basically, I think he's more valuable to us than his market value. (In big part because we're so tight up against the cap).

But if not, we have other players in the minors who can try with big team. But I doubt he will, personally I didn't see any creativity in his game, can't even finish bodychecks strong. Just regular dump and run player.

fourtrax
Any hard-working fourth line player in the league? Bingo. Pyatt, Begin, Kostopoulos ... all good, hard-working guys, all disposable. A guy like Pyatt should never be on more than a two-year contract, to ensure he works for his money at all times.
tomeeb
Really liking that Pyatt was resigned. I know he can be replaced, but man a 300k paycut? He's a better person than I am.

I would take a 300,000 pay cut if it meant I was going to be payed 500,000 thats about 440,000 more than i make now.
