alzimutg
http://www.tsn.ca/nhl/story/?id=297862#YourCallTop Big paycheck though. It would be cap suicide. We're already in cap Hell city, so I don't see it. +, he does not want to be a back-up, which is what we would need for Price.

If that was true, toronto would have no goalie!(No toronto clause i mean) We have 2 Great goalies here(Halak and Price), and a good goalie in the minors(Sanford), we don't need gigure, not to mention he's probley making more then our best players (Gomez excluded)

If we acquired him he'd be 2nd up with Markov (~5.75m), Hamrilik, Cammalleri, Gionta (All ~5m). (Courtesy of nhlnumbers.com) There's no cap space unless we drop a couple of our higher paid players (like that would happen) and really, do we need another goalie? FirstStar
Waah... Another overpaid player not getting his way throwing a fit. He had several good seasons, but Hiller's their future... Is he for real? Hiller is in his mid 20's, JS is in his early 30's, who do you think The Ducks are gonna keep? C'mon, that's a no brainer. JS, you might've just signed your own pink slip. swimmerpuck
To Anaheim: Hamrlik and Halak (hey, they were supposed to be traded all summer) To Montreal: Giguere and 4 Left Defencemen

Remember that the actual money a player makes in any given year is irrelevant. Its the cap hit that is important. The cap hit of the guys you mentioned are: Gomez: 7.357M Cammy: 6M Gionta: 5M Markov: 5.75m Hammer: 5.5m (markov, hammer & giontas cap hits = their salary because there is no variation in pay over their contract. Conversely cammy makes $5m this year in actual "cash" but $6.25 over the remainder - averages out to $6m) Giguere, for what its worth, is making $5.5m (balloons up to $7m in his last year) so his cap hit is $6m for the next two years. 1) Not interested. 2) No way to fit him under the cap. Personally, Ive always found him overrated - sure he can be brilliant at times but at others you question why he's an NHL starter. I think few would argue that we need a $6m goalie on this roster. A vet backup might make some sense, but we're talking about a $1.5m or less acquisition IMHO.
catt-_mtlc
Giguere to Leafs, Toskala to Ducks. Only problem is that Giguere has NTC (No Toronto Clause)... I don't think he's wave his NTC to go to the dead end Leafs, that's career suicide. goaltending is not our issue $ like this is better spent on a solid D-man Exactly, as mediocre as our goaltending is they're young and need time to develop before we give up on them. Defense is the problem Gainey should concentrate his efforts there.
viperhockey
Giguere will be a leaf and HE WILL wave his NTC to rejoin BRAIN Burke. The leafs enter next season with only Toskala under contract. (The "MONSTER" is on a 1 year deal) so there is no way they will enter 2010 - 2011 with Toskala and other. (he's awful) Toskala will be traded to Anaheim.....I couldn't tell you what else the leafs would have to throw in....but even if the leafs can resign "The Monster", he's like price and great 1 night, terrible the next....so he needs to develop more slowly.....and having giguere to be number 1 for 1 and 1/2 seasons is ideal. By contract end time, Giguere will likely sign for less than his current salary, so the roles could revrse of he could just walk to another team. Either way, the leafs won't start with Toskala in their line up next year. I posted about this possibility on this board last November I think, when burke became GM and Hillier was getting more ice. Only a few more months or even weeks and it may be done.
Dintrox12
No way do I want Giggy. He makes way too much. Once they start cracking down on goalie equipment, he will deflate and his GAA will inflate.
WTA
Actually after last season I was kind of thinking of trading Halak and picking up Giguere to mentor Price, but as of right now both Halak and Price are playing probably the best they ever have, and in a way I'm glad we have been patient with the two of them......too me I think their defense has actually beginning to gel because in the last few games anyways they have been giving up way less shots, and if anything they need a second line scorer
Wayne-1
is his son's health -- the reason Burke gave him the no-trade clause in the first place -- at a point where he would be willing to accept a trade anywhere?
Rogie
@ Puck Hog NO! Why the hell would we make a deal for a goalie that we don`t need, especially with his salary. We have Price(#1) and Halak(#2).....both are solid.
nikohab
Let's all put this in perspective. It was decided that Price would be # 1 but after the entire 5 year plan fell apart last season and then loosing all the players to free agency were back to square 1. Can we fault Bob Gainey? Maybe A little bit for not being modest with the kind of team we had. However I really fault the players because this is the NHL and I cannot accept certain attitudes of certain players. Hockey plyers may be faster and more skillfull but we all know for sure that the passion and pride is nowhere near to what it used to be. It seems to be a trend in this era that players don't fear their consequences any longer which is why I hate the NHLPA and all these stupid policies and regulations. Players get away with everything today and they are protected. Under these screwed up conditions how can anyone coach or run their team. I feel for for Bob Gainey, our coaching staff and the entire NHL.
